SCARLET OMEGA
SCARLET OMEGA’S POV
My father grunted the second I walked into the room. “What are you—”
Elena cut in, her voice soft. “Father, I asked her to come. Please,” Elena began. “I want her to watch me shift Dad.”
Elena Diaz AKA the golden twin, and the chosen one. She was my twin sister. Technically, she came first and was more loved because of the prophecy surrounding our birth.
Suddenly, someone walked in, pulling my attention to him. I lifted my chin, and it was Liam Sanchez.
Liam Sanchez, the soon to be Beta of my pack, Silverwolf, and my boyfriend. My heart fluttered in my chest.
This time the air around him was different, not like it hadn’t been different before. Only now, it was just… more sensual.
His face rested on mine, and it set my body burning with an intense desire. He looked like an invitation to sin, in a way that felt right.
My body sizzled with an urgent need to have his hands wrapped around me.
Liam Sanchez was my— “mate!” I broke the silence.
A growl escaped Liam’s lips as he edged towards me, and stood a few inches away from me.
Electric current crackled between us. I leaned into him for balance, he moved away and I fell, face flat.
Everyone in the hall bursted into laughter. “Liam…”
A growl rattled his chest. “I can’t scent you out, Scarlet,” he groaned.
“But, I can…”
He scoffed. “Scarlet Omega, putting up a show won’t change anything.”
“You’re my fated mate.”
Another scoff.
Then, Liam turned to face Elena who had a stoic expression etched on her face.
He sauntered towards her, growling like his wolf was about to go frantic. “Mate…” His raspy voice filled the air. “Elena Diaz, is my mate.”
Elena gasped, and was about to speak when Liam’s fangs sliced out. Right in front of me, my mate marked my twin sister.
Something sharp and poisonous pinched through my body. Slow at first, then it started spreading faster and faster, sucking up every bit of strength…and blood I had in me.
The ruby necklace Elena had given me earlier as my birthday gift shone red, almost scalding my skin.
Elena had stolen my scent.
I knew because the pain searing through my body was similar to the pain of rejection. However, this was worse.
Only one person felt the pain—me.
This was the pain of abandonment. I saw it in Liam’s eyes. He knew there was something, he just couldn’t point out what it was.
Rejection from your fated mate could shut down your entire system. But that was a shared pain. Torturous, but you weren’t going through it alone.
This? I had no words for it. Liam didn’t even feel anything, so I had to bear the pain…alone. While I watched the entire pack cheer as he crashed my sister into a kiss.
Dad cleared his throat. “Today is a very good day for my daughter, Elena Diaz,” His face beamed. “She shifted for the first time, and she scented her wolf. Honey, you’re indeed the chosen one.”
My father beamed, as if the pain that sizzled through my spine meant nothing. Before our birth, there was a prophecy— the first twin would possess powers, and possess the ‘red wolf’ abilities.
All hell was let loose when I shifted at thirteen. Elena didn’t shift. My father was enraged, and too power hungry to let a defect (me) take Elena’s place.
For five years of our lives, my blood was extracted to awaken Elena’s wolf. “It’s a little sacrifice for your sister.” My father had said with a stoic expression on his face.
Elena grinned ear to ear. “I can’t believe I have a wolf.” She giggled, and added almost immediately. “And the best man in the entire world as my mate.”
Rage clouded my thoughts. I’ve had enough of her putting up a show in front of the pack, while she killed me behind closed doors.
I sauntered towards her in rage, and threw my fist at her. Liam was in time to block me. Elena shrieked, leaning into his sturdy chest.
“What has gotten into this mad child again?” Dad’s voice seethed with impatience.
“Scarlet Omega, what have I done again?”
Ugh.
“Scheming bastard!” I screamed. “Putting up a show in front of Dad, after stealing my scent!”
Silence… Deafening silence held the room.
“Wh-wh-wh—” Elena stuttered.
I smirked. “You think I wouldn’t know?” I paused. “You think I wouldn’t know you stole my scent, so Liam would smell me off you.”
Elena pulled away from Liam’s touch. “Scarlet, what have I done again?”
I grimaced. “Tell the pack exactly what you’ve done,” my gaze bounced between them, and rested briefly on Liam. “Elena, you stole my scent.”
Tears dripped down Elena’s cheeks, and that set my parents off. Especially, you know who.
“Oh God! Just when I thought the Silverwolf pack was done with your tantrums,” my father gestured to the enforcers. “Take her to the dungeon. I’m in a good mood today. I’ll decide on her punishment later on.”
I lifted my chin, and locked eyes with my father. For the first time since I was born, I looked my father right in the eyes.
I let out a dry laugh. “That’s all you know how to do, father. Scratch that, I mean Alpha Diaz,” My breathing became ragged.
I should stop, but I’ve had enough…enough of being treated like a f*****g outcast. My eyes lingered on mom’s face briefly. I didn’t need her pity tonight.
“I watched Elena shift into her wolf, while I didn’t.”
“You’re not the chosen one.”
“Enough of that!” I snapped. “I’m not the chosen one, but you could’ve allowed my wolf when I first shifted at—” Alpha Diaz hit me hard across my cheeks, and I collapsed onto the tiles.
The coppery taste of blood filled my mouth. Alpha Diaz barked. “Enforcers!”
“Yes Alpha.”
“Take this little rebellion to the dungeon. She’s a threat to the new couple.”
The men bowed, and started dragging me. I gave them a fight for it with all the strength left in me when the ruby necklace Elena had given me broke, and fell onto the marble tiles.
Liam narrowed his eyes, as he pointed at the object. “What’s that?”
Elena’s mouth fell wide open. “Daddy, look at that.”
The room temperature suddenly dipped with silence. Then it came, a loud nerve cracking growl capable of shredding me in a thousand pieces.
“Is this what you’ve resorted to?” My father demanded, his voice steady. “Dark magic? Really!”
I flinched. Albeit, I stood my ground, even though I was confused. Dad picked the necklace, dangling it at my face.
“You were desperate to steal your sister’s mate, you used this?” He demanded. “An enchanted ruby to lure Liam?”
“He’s a complete jerk…” even if I loved him. I finished the statement in my head. There was no point adding that Elena gave that to me.
Did I really love him? Or do I love the illusion of what I thought he could be?
I shook my head. “Elena—”
My father didn’t let me finish, when he slapped me hard across the cheeks. No tears slipped. Even my body agreed I was done crying for people who made it their duty to hurt me.
My name is Scarlet Omega, the defect daughter of the Diaz family. One who shouldn’t have lived in the first place.
And when I had the guts to be born, I had to give up my wolf to awaken my twin sister’s wolf.
“Scarlet Omega, you’re unredeemable," He shook his head in terror. “Sweetheart, I didn’t think this would be an option, but she chose her path.” He turned to face my mother who was glaring daggers at me.
“Do what you must for the Silverwolf pack, and our Luna.” Mom said.
“First thing in the morning, you’re leaving for Moonwolf college,” he tossed what looked like a letter to my face. “Take it and leave. Never set foot in this pack, ever again. And that’s an order.”
You’ve got to be kidding me.
Moonwolf college was made for a group of people— The Elite Wolves. It was the most feared school ruled by the Castillo triplets.
People, Omegas like me do not have a place in the school. I will not last there.
A sad smile touched my lips. “I will not last there. I don’t have a wolf.” My throat was parched. “Dad.” The word tasted like bile in my throat.
I made a mental note that it’ll be the last time I’ll refer to him with that title.
“It doesn’t matter.”
