Chapter 2

Kai stood up slowly. His body kept moving, but his eyes were fixed on Anchi and the man who had just attacked him. And when Kai had managed to stand up straight, then he wiped a little blood on the corner of his lips with his thumb. "Now I can't get angry when someone tells me I'm so stupid," Kai said and smiled sarcastically. Then he stepped forward calmly towards Anchi. Anchi immediately hugged the man beside her tightly and acted as if she was scared. "Hansel, I feel scared. He looks like he wants to kill me like he killed Doctor Zuming three years ago." Everyone in the room immediately picked up on Anchi's words and began to blaspheme Kai. "Shut up!" Kai shouted. Instantly, the atmosphere in the room turned silent. Kai stopped walking; he directed his sharp brown eyes towards everyone in the room. Yes, the aura of leadership was still strong in him even though it had been three years since he had led an army to war. His 190 cm height and well-formed body certainly felt domineering to people with an average height of 170 cm. "You all don't know the truth, but you dare to make bad comments," Kai said in a loud voice. Then Kai turned to look at Mr. Thomas, who was standing one meter to his right. "I've sacrificed for you, so what about your promise to me?" Mr. Thomas was silent, his sharp eyes staring straight at Kai, while his hands continued to clench into fists to keep his composure. "Kai, stop talking, or you will only embarrass yourself even more," said Hansel, the man currently standing next to Anchi. A moment later, Kai turned to look at Hansel, the person who had been his best friend since he entered military school and became his deputy when he served as a warlord. "I used to trust you so much and thought of you as a brother that when I suspected a traitor, I told you to look for that traitor. No wonder you never found it; it turned out to be you," he said and smiled sarcastically. "You must have a brain problem after living in prison for three years. I'm very loyal to you," Hansel said quickly. "Loyal," Kai said while looking at Anchi and Hansel in turn. Hansel released Anchi's hand, then he walked casually towards Kai. "To be honest, I knew that today was the day you were released from prison, and I planned to pick you up after the party was over because of our friendship for a dozen years." After a while, he stopped right in front of Kai, then picked up the piece of parsley leaf that was on Kai's shoulder. "You should have gone to your adoptive parents' house first before you came to this party," Hansel said with a volume that could only be heard by him and Kai. Kai's eyes immediately bulged; he quickly pulled Hansel's collar. "What are you doing to my foster parents?" Hansel dropped the parsley leaves from his hand casually and then looked into Kai's eyes. A sly smile appeared on Hansel's lips. "What do you think I can do to them?" "You!" growled Kai. "Guards!" shouted Sir Thomas once again. Immediately, four of Mr. Thomas's men ran towards Kai. Two of them pulled Kai's hands to let go of Hansel's collar, and the other two pointed their guns at Kai. Kai turned to Mr. Thomas. "I trusted you and thought of you as my own father when I married Anchi, so I was willing to do everything for you!" Kai shouted while staring at Mr. Thomas. Kai's face was crimson; his body trembled, feeling the anger and disappointment mixed in his heart. * Meanwhile, on the other side, a young woman wearing a black dress with a high leg slit was walking towards Mr. George from behind. The beautiful woman, who had bow-shaped lips that were polished with red lipstick, was now continuing to walk and fixed her eyes on Kai while holding a glass filled with drinks in her hand. "Isn't he the one who got a prison sentence three years ago?" the woman said when she reached Mr. George. "That's right, Miss," replied Mr. George, the confidant of the great general of the Northern Fronch nation. "He used to be a recognized warlord, and even our Northern Fronch nation asked for his help during the attack on Pholdra city. He used to be highly admired until he was caught up in the murder of Doctor Zuming." "Hm, I know about this case," said Lyn, the daughter of the great general of the Northern Fronch nation. She continued to stare at Kai while playing with the water in the glass in her hand. She continued to pay attention to the debate going on in the center of the room; she also closely observed Kai's facial expressions. "He's stupid," Lyn muttered, then smiled a little. Then she casually drank the drink in her glass until it was finished. Mr. George immediately glanced at Lyn. "Do you want to help him?" Lyn turned her head towards Mr. George then moved the glass away from her lips. "If a problem like this can't be solved by himself, does he deserve to be called a southern god of war?" she said casually. Mr. George immediately frowned. "Do you know Kai Bowen?" Lyn looked back at Kai. "Maybe," she replied in a lighthearted tone. 'Kai Bowen, our business isn't done yet, so how did you fall down like this? What a stupid man,' she thought. After that, Lyn placed the glass in her hand on a nearby table. "Kai Bowel," she muttered and turned around. "Are you leaving?" asked Mr. George as he turned to Lyn. Lyn turned to Mr. George and smiled warmly. "I'm going to the restroom to tidy up my hair, George." replied Lyn casually while pointing at her long hair that was left loose and only adorned with a small hairpin on the left side. A moment later, her almond-shaped eyes glanced back at Kai, who was still arguing with Mr. Thomas and Hansel. "Would you like me to keep an eye on him for you?" asked Mr. George calmly. "After a very long time, this is the first time I see you interested in a boy again." Lyn looked back at Mr. George. "Don't mock me. I'm only 23 years old; your words make me look like an old woman," she said calmly. Mr. George smiled. "I was just joking, Miss." Lyn let out a long breath and then looked forward to going to the toilet. But when she had just taken a step, there was suddenly a gunshot in the center of the room. Of course this made Lyn startled, and she immediately turned around to look back at Kai. "Damn," Lyn said when she saw Kai kneeling on the floor. Lyn immediately stepped forward, but suddenly...
