CHAPTER 4:UNFOLDED PAST 1.

Leah is in her room,sitting at the edge of her bed,her eyes glued to her phone,staring intently at a number that's been on the screen for longer than it probably should have been. She was conflicted by thoughts,wondering if she should just give Brittany a call,wondering if she was overtthinking it all and she could actually be friends with her,wondering if Brittany liked her too or she was just misreading the signs and wondering if things would actually work out between them if she gave her a call,the call she had avoided for years.

After much thoughts and consideration,she decided she would risk it and give her that call so she took a deep breath and gave Brittany a call. It rang for a few seconds before someone picked up the call,that was when she realized she hadn't even thought of what she would say if Brittany answered the call so she was completely at a loss for what to say

"Who's this?" A deep,unfriendly voice could be heard. Leah frowned,immediately recognizing the voice to be Luke's

"Is this Leah?" Luke asked,this time with a little less hostility

"Uh yeah" Leah replied,still frowning

"Why are you answering her call?" Leah added,looking gloomy. Luke sighed

"What happened?" Leah asked,sensing that something was amiss,her heart started to beat a bit faster

"Answer" She urged coldly

"Brittany's in the hospital" he said after much deliberation

"What?" She said,almost yelling,her eyes losing focus,her countenance darkening immediately,her hands shaking slightly

"What happened?" She couldn't quite wrap her head around it because clearly,she had spoken to Brian earlier that day so what must have happened?

"Come over,I can't say" he said briefly,making her heart skip a bit

"I'll be there" she said,grabbing her car keys without any delay,without changing into another outfit or anything,she hurried down stairs and headed for the garage,choosing a random car and zooming off to the hospital.

Two hours had passed and Brittany was still lying unconscious on the hospital bed,surrounded by doctors trying their best to stabilize and salvage the situation.

Luke,Brian and Leah were sitting outside in the hallway,waiting for any news from the doctors

"Why this hospital?" Leah asks,clearly annoyed by the lack of information she was getting from the staffs there

"The others are too far" Luke says,eyeing her

Leah notices his expression but ignores it,he was an irrelevance,she thought to herself and picked up her phone,she had some matters she was ought to attend to at that moment but she couldn't care less about them,she just needed to see Brittany,fine and well

She regretted not calling,regretted not approaching,regretted avoiding her but those remorseful thoughts were just thoughts after all and couldn't change the past. She was on the verge of tears,her hands were cold and pale,as white as a sheet of paper,shaking violently,her entire body was covered in sweat as she looked towards the room Brittany was with tears in her eyes,threatening to drop,but she wouldn't let that happen,she said to herself and canceled all her plans scheduled for that night and switched off her phone,tossing it aside with little to no care.

Her eyes were fixed on Brittany's ward,not leaving it for even one second,not blinking,just staring.

Luke walked over and saw that she didn't look too good,he was stunned,he had never for once,seen Leah in such a state,he didn't know why she was so concerned about Brittany,it wasn't like they were friends but he soon quickly caught onto the situation,he sighed and sat next to her,not too close,not daring to touch her

"Don't be like this,she'll be fine" he said,not sure why he was doing the consoling when he himself needed it more than anyone

"Mmm" she hummed softly,not daring to take her eyes off the door,as if worried that If she looked away,Brittany might just escape or something,she didn't even know why she was so intently staring at the door but she just couldn't take her eyes off it

"What happened?" Leah took a deep breath and asked,still not looking away from the door

"I can't say,i'm not in the position to" he sighed,looking at her with dull eyes

"Mmm" she doesn't probe further,just stays silent,cursing herself for not being there,for letting her fears stop her from being there for the one person she loved,she wanted to protect her,to hug her,to provide for her,forever.

While she was still deep in thought,a doctor came out of the ward,approaching them,she immediately got up,agitated as she hurried to the doctor's side,"how is she?" She asks,afraid she wouldn't like what the doctor would say next

"You are?" The doctor asks,looking at her,he couldn't help but admire her looks,it was way too eye-catching to ignore,he nearly forgot his purpose for coming out

"The patient's condition is stable now,she's out of danger and would most likely be conscious in less than two hours,he said looking at Luke and Brian who he had seen earlier and then looking back at Leah with a smile

"And who are you here for?" He says in a gentlemanly tone

Leah frowns,looks at Brian who gestures for her to ignore him

"When can we see her?"Luke asked

"Now is okay" the doctor casually replies and turns his attention back to leah who walks past him,heading to Brittany's ward

"She's not into your gender" Brian says with a faint smile,as if mocking him.

Inside the ward,stood Leah,Brian and Luke,all looking solemn,waiting for Brittany to regain consciousness when suddenly,Brittany's phone starts to vibrate,Luke is holding it with a deep frown on his face as he stares at the number displayed on the screen,it's Brittany's father,Lothaire.

Luke declines the call but it keeps ringing so he picks up the call,frustrated

"Hello" Lothaire said in his devilishly deep voice that carried a dark aura. Luke shudders

"What do you want?" He said through gritted teeth

Lothaire laughs,"my daughter of course"

That immediately catches the attention of Leah who looks up with cold eyes,her gaze fixed on Luke and the phone in his hand

"Quick one,I'll give her two hours to meet me at the green house Cafe" Lothaire says and hangs up

"What was that about?" Leah asks in an oddly deep and cold voice that sounded commanding

"It's nothing" Luke says,not wanting to disclose any information to leah without Brittany's consent

"Okay" Leah casually says and walks out of the ward with her car keys in hand

"Where are you going?" Brian and Luke ask,almost at the same time

Leah ignores them both and heads straight to the garage where her car was parked.
