The Sunday morning traffic was sparse as he drove back toward the interstate. As he passed the Days Inn he glanced into the car park; three police cruisers were still parked, not far from where the camper had been. A throng of onlookers stood outside, gawping up at the third floor. The sight of two rather large women in gaudy pink dressing gowns amongst the crowd even made him smile a little. No matter where you went in the world, people were always the same, all eager to watch someone else's misfortune or get in on the latest gossip.
