“Thea, Iris, come in” ordered alpha Odin. Damn werewolf senses, he probably smelt us.

“ Whats going on? Who was that today I met?” I started, straight to the point.

“ Sit down girls, I’ll summon the boys” Odin signed.

“Wait” Mum stopped him. “We don’t know anything for sure yet”

“ Sally the girls need to know what happened so they understand why they have to be careful.” There was a pause as he sat down in his chair. “We knew this day might come eventually and we agreed we tell them the truth.”

In what felt like no time at all my brothers, Jackson and Oliver had arrived.

Alpha Odin started. “There once was a powerful alpha, he had recently been awarded alpha of alphas but he had not met his mate yet. His pack was well known for infighting and his brothers were all lining up to be his heir so he was desperate to find a powerful Luna and start producing. There was a pack in the east that was rumoured to have gifted wolves, classically silver in colour all with various powers usually relating to the mind.

However as these wolves had been hunted for their powers so over the years their numbers had started to fall. Two gifted wolves could produce another gifted wolf but if a gifted wolf mated with a normal wolf the gift wasn’t always passed on.

The alpha in question was named Sebastian and he met a shewolf at one of the mating balls, he fell in love instantly but the wolf was already mated and in fact pregnant. Sebastian could not leave this wolf alone, even after she had her baby girl he continued to seek her, requesting she reject her mate and become his Luna. When he tracked her down to her pack and realised it was one that gifted wolves were rumoured to originate from, so his resolve to have her intensified. He tried to order the alpha to relinquish her to him but he refused, and also the Luna would not leave her pack and young daughter. No one would support the alpha in his attempt at war with the pack but as he was alpha of alpha no one had the power to stop him when he declared war himself.

Years passed and it appeared he had forgotten about her. But they were wrong he had been researching gifted wolves and plotting how to take her for himself as with her he believed he could have a powerful heir to continue in his footsteps.

One evening the pack was attacked and the alpha killed, the Luna was gifted but her ability was believed to be creating protective barriers but she was not very powerful.

Instructing her Gamma to save her daughter she concentrated her ability on ensuring safe passage for them out of the pack. However this was too much for her and when an diversionary explosion occurred to allow other pack members to escape she was caught in the debris and didn’t survive. Most of the pack were obliterated but some did manage to survive due to the explosion.

The Gamma got the little girl to safety along with his daughter and they came to live here under the protection of my parents. The alpha was stripped of his powers as alpha of alphas but disappeared. Rumour had it his brother took over the pack.

My head was reeling - was mum was the little girl ?

Thea looked confused “ what does this have to do with us ?”

“Sally has powers but she has tried to keep them hidden and without any training she doesn’t know how to use them properly.”

I looked at mum.”Is this true?”

“Yes, I can mindlink anyone and multiple people at once. So not a particularly useful gift.”

“But” Odin continued “ as Clara arrived at the same time and Rose grew up with them I’m pretty sure that no one knows which of them could be gifted. We have to assume that they have worked out it’s more likely the girls have powers and our worry is that they would want you as their Luna”

“So what do we do ?” I asked

“I don’t know” Dad replied “I never thought they would still be looking for Sally after all these years, so I never occurred they would come for you.”

“We carry on as normal but the girls are never left unprotected, we can’t give anyone watching any suspicion that we know what they are looking for” Odin stated rising to his feet.

“But why do they want her, we don’t know she has powers and no offence Mum they don’t sound that great” Lachlan asked sheepishly.

“Some of the powers were more spectacular and every wolf is given an individual gift. Potentially any of you could be gifted but so far only Iris has shown anything and none of your wolfs came early”

I just sat in stunned silence “so Mum was a gifted wolf and one of us could be too, and if it’s me some mad man wants to make me his Luna but might accidentally kidnap Thea instead” I thought I was saying to myself until I saw everyone looking at me.

“Not like Iris to make a drama out of everything” drawled Oliver “ also you could have just met a rogue that wanted to sell you for a good price”

I shot him a dirty look, he always had to be so mean about everything.

“Well we will never know now” piped up Jackson “Luke had just linked me, the rogue is dead”

A mighty growl sounded from Odin or Dad.

“Everyone go get ready for the ball, Iris you should go to bed someone escort the girls to their rooms” Odin ordered and the three alphas stormed out towards the cells to investigate.

“I’m going to see Luke, can you guys take the girls up, see you later” and Jackson followed them out.

“Iris try and get some sleep, it’s takes a lot out of you to heal before you have your wolf, Thea we will see you at the ball but remember don’t mention any of this to anyway. It’s best to assume that you can’t trust anyone outside of this room.

A silence fell amount us and even Oliver had the grace to look like he cared.
