CHAPTER 1: Taking the first step

"Mom........please don't " I couldn't stop the tears rushing down my face .
"Baby listen to me......you have to run. Run and don't look back please". Mom kept pushing me towards the thick forest,away from the red eyes of the beast that were surrounding us. she was bleeding from everywhere . Her legs were covered in so much blood that I began to panic .
"your father is on his way . you have to run to him........baby please "she says with fear written all over her.
"Mom please........no I don't want to leave you". At this point I was crying and trashing around as Mom looked at me with sad eyes, kissed my forehead and then pushed me towards the forest with all her strength. At that time one of the beast lounged towards her with it's claws ready to slit her throat . My father jumped out from behind me in an attempt to save her but he was too late ,I couldn't breathe or move . All that was heard was the falling of mom's lifeless body and the heart piercing scream from dad as he killed the remaining beasts. I couldn't tell what was happening but one thing for sure was that mom wasn't moving.
I ran towards mom's body screaming and shaking her to wake up . I just wanted an ice-cream, maybe if only I hadn't asked her for it. This is all my fault, I killed her ,I'm nothing but a bad omen.
"Nooooooo..........."

"Des........."
"Des.........." I could hear my name but couldn't find the source of the voice . Where am I?
"Des.......wake up " there goes the voice again but who is "Des". Wait did I hear "wake up" was this a dream.
"Des.........wake up,it's just a dream, I'm here." I slowly opened my eyes to see Kyle hugging me tight . I was drenched in my own sweat . oh I remember now,it was a dream. A realistic one at that. Kyle,is my older brother,the vampire king. He took over as king few months after we lost mom ,and dad couldn't concentrate any longer. It's being 10yrs since mom died and I still keep having these dreams. More like I wouldn't stop blaming myself for her death. Dad and Kyle both tried to tell me it wasn't my fault but I knew better.
The sun ray was now covering half of the room. The birds where already awake flying around the kingdom.
"Des..look at me " Kyle pulled me apart from him as he looked down at me . I still can't believe that he's so much taller than me . He is the vampire king and a feared one at that but he always comes running whenever it has something to do with me.
"was it the same dream again " he looked really worried.
"yes" I nodded while looking down not wanting him to see me cry. "Dobby I'm scared"
"come here...." he pulls me into a hug ."I'm here ok ,we all are. Everything is going to be fine". he wipes off my tears and pecks my forehead, while rocking me back and forth.
"I made pancakes,but since you're glued to me I guess Leo will have to finish it" Kyle said with a smirk. I immediately let go of him as I hurriedly jumped from the bed while trying to make it to the door but tripped.
"Leo.........don't you dare finish that pancake" Kyle was laughing but I didn't find it funny. He knew how much I love pancakes and he left my sweet babies alone with that glutton of a brother . I took off downstairs in a splent determined to save my poor babies.
"Morning Des" Leo stuffs a handful of pancakes in his mouth.
"wh....at.....crawled....un..der your bed this morning " Leo smirked as he struggled to talk with his mouth full . I lounged at him and snatched the plate away from him as he was about to take another bite.
"you asshole....hands off my babies " I hid the plate behind my back in an attempt to stop him from taking anymore. To be honest I don't think that was even possible because Leo is 5'8ft and Kyle is 6ft,compared to my 5ft of a height. Kyle is the first born ,Leo is the second born ,leaving me as the baby of the house. Sometimes I feel like mother nature is playing a fast trick on me . I mean,I'm 17yrs old but I don't look like it which can be very annoying sometimes.
" so are you ready for today?"Kyle asked while putting more pancakes on my plate as I already made myself comfortable at the kitchen counter.
"Ready for what?" I asked with my mouth full. I grabbed the cup on the table and poured myself some orange juice . Kyle paused as he chuckled while I kept munching on my pancakes with no care in the world.
"Alpha King Ski is coming today. We're holding a meeting over the destruction caused by the Minotaur. And you need to make an appearance as the youngest in the family ,you're the one to welcome him". Taking my now empty plate,Kyle walked towards the sink ,dumps it and started walking towards the door. I choked on my juice ,I could swear I felt a chill down my spine as I heard the name "Alpha King Ski". He is known as the ruthless King to ever rule the werewolf kingdom. He feeds on the fear from his preys.
"Whaaaaaat!!!!" I'm trembling in fear right now . Why does he have to come here. can't they hold the meeting at his palace. Today might be the end of me .
"Dobby please I can't, what If I anger him and he takes my head off " my mind wouldn't stop thinking about all the negative things that could happen.
"pum pum.......listen ,he may be fierce for all I care but you're my pumpkin and nobody, I repeat nobody messes with you ". Kyle said as he pecked my forehead. He looked at me with so much care in the world while patting my head.
"And besides he may be feared but I believe he has a soft spot somewhere in there".He gave me a warm smile as he went out the door . I still couldn't shake off fact that the Alpha King is coming today.
"How am I even supposed to welcome the King" I sighed as I slumped on the kitchen counter feeling helpless,maybe I can ask Leo for help.
" Lee...please I need your help " I quickly grabbed his hand as he was about to leave too. He looks at me mischievously and I just know he's about to say something stupid.
"I would have loved to help you little brother but nobody in their right state of mind mind would ever want to trade places with you" he patts my head.
"if I were you ,I will start saying my last prayer. I don't mind being your next of kin" he smirked and pecked my forehead before leaving. That ass hole ,always trying to mess with me. What does he mean by being my next of kin. Wait!!! isn't that for when someone dies.
"Leo!!!!!!! you piece of s**t how dare you say that " I picked up the plate nearest to me and threw it at him but unfortunately for me he dodged it while running away laughing. I just can't believe that they would do this to me .
"what am I going to do now " resting my head on the counter . "maybe I can ask dad for help ,but I don't think he will either ". Dad is always talking about how he wants to avoid the Alpha King as much as possible. I guess I have no choice than to accept my fate . I just hope I make it out alive.
