#musicvibe - Leaves of Yggdrasil, Myrkur * Evy POV As soon as I got the mindlink from Garrett, Violet and I sprinted to the hospital and found Alex, Kayden and Garrett sitting in a waiting room. “They’re in there.” Kayden said and pointed at a door across the hall. “The doctors are looking at her now.” I nodded and gave Garrett a kiss. “Are you okay?” I asked. Garrett shrugged. “I just want this past week to rewind so that we never would have ended up in this situation.” He muttered. “Is it that bad?” I asked. “I don’t know.” Garrett replied. “She just seems so… weak.” We waited for a few minutes, but flew out of our seats when we heard the most heart-wrenching scream. Before we could do anything, Tyson stormed out of the room. I gasped when I saw his half shifted state running down the corridor, slowly ripping through his clothes as Dax was forcing himself out. “You go make sure he’s okay.” Violet said. “We’ll check on Valeria.” While Kayden and Garrett went after Tyson, Violet, Alex and I walked inside the room and found Valeria with a doctor. They both sat in stunned silence, and I instantly felt that something was wrong. “What happened?” Violet asked quietly. Valeria glanced at the doctor and gave him a small nod. “I just told the Alpha and Luna that the wolfsbane poisoning is too severe to be treated.” He said quietly. I sucked in a breath. “You’re-you’re dying?” I asked in disbelief. Tyson’s reaction suddenly made a lot of sense, and tears welled up in my eyes too. I quickly blinked them away when I saw Valeria turn her head away. She didn’t need me to cry right now. I sat down next to her and pulled her into a hug. Valeria didn’t make a sound, she just stared blankly ahead of her. “I would advise you not to overexert yourself.” The doctor said quietly and looked at Violet. “You’ve had a long trip here, so I’m going to send a team with you back to the castle and make sure that you get comfortable there.” Valeria nodded absentmindedly and Violet and I thanked the doctor before Alex volunteered to carry Valeria back to the castle. Valeria accepted quietly and two nurses followed us to Tyson and Valeria’s bedroom. Valeria frowned when we walked inside, but she didn’t protest when Alex put her down on the bed and the nurses gave her a shot with painkillers. Valeria was asleep within minutes once again and I looked up at Alex and Violet. “I’ll stay with her for a while.” I whispered. Violet nodded and they left the bedroom while I couldn’t hold back anymore. Valeria slept soundly next to me while I cried my heart out in the most silent way possible. * Tyson POV I didn’t come back into my body until I was lying naked on the ground, my body screaming from exhaustion trying to keep Dax at bay. He had passed out in my mind, forcing me back into control even if I felt like I didn’t want it. It all hurt too much. I flinched when I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I looked up to see Kayden staring back at me. I closed my eyes again, feeling too ashamed to look at him. “Valeria is dying.” I said, forcing out every word. “She only has a few months left.” I didn’t dare to look at them. “Please kill me.” I whispered. “I can’t live with this guilt.” Kayden sat down next to me. “Do you think Valeria wants you to die?” He asked. The question made me feel even worse. “I don’t deserve her.” I cried. “I’m not strong enough.” “You do deserve her.” Kayden frowned. “What happened wasn’t your fault. It was that witch, not you.” I shook my head. “Maybe you should talk to Valeria.” Garrett suggested. “I mean, I’m sure that she doesn’t blame you for all this. Besides, she’s your mate and she just found out that she’s dying.” I sat up abruptly. “You’re right.” I said and scrambled to my feet. “Why the hell am I sitting here while my mate is handling this news on her own. I’m an idiot.” I sprinted back to the castle, not waiting for an answer. When I saw Evy coming out of the bedroom, I came to a stop, panting heavily. “How is she?” I asked. “Resting.” Evy replied and closed the door quietly. “Good.” I whispered, not sure what to say. Evy sighed. “May I be frank with you, Alpha?” She asked. I nodded. “I know that you feel like this is all your fault, and there is probably nothing I can say to make you change your mind about that.” She said. “But it really wasn’t your fault, and if I were you, I’d push aside all of that and only focus on Valeria right now.” Evy gulped and wiped away a tear. “She doesn’t have much left.” She continued. “So maybe instead of blaming yourself for something that wasn’t your fault, make sure that Valeria goes out as the happiest woman on the planet. Make sure that the time she has left is the best time she could possibly have.” I nodded. “You’re right.” I whispered. “I’ve been so caught up in my guilt that I haven’t been able to see past it.” “I’m glad you realize it.” Evy replied. “Now, go be with her. The full moon is going to be up in a few hours, so I’m going to find my own mate.” I smiled softly. “Thanks Evy.” I said. “We’re just a mindlink away if you need anything.” She smiled before disappearing down the hall. I snuck inside the bedroom and found Valeria in bed, fast asleep. When I was just about to pull the covers away and lie down next to her, I stopped myself. No. What if she didn’t want me to? I sat down next to her until the full moon rose, then I got a blanket and a pillow from the couch and laid down on the floor next to her. It still kept me close enough to her during the full moon, even if Dax felt a little uncomfortable being even this far away from her. I fell into a restless sleep and tossed and turned for the rest of the night.
