Valeria POV
“Alright.” Dr Harlow chirped and pulled a blood pressure cuff off my upper arm. “You need to rest. A lot. But as long as you take it easy and don’t overexert yourself, you’re not going to get drastically worse.”
I nodded.
“Does this mean that I can go on the trip?” I asked.
Dr Harlow sighed.
“Tyson will have a crash course in how to change your bandages, and you’ll need this paper to take any medication with you if you decide to leave the country. But other than that, I think it’ll do you good to get away a little.”
I smiled.
“Thanks.” I replied and leaned back in the chair.
“Are you getting tired again?” Dr Harlow frowned.
“Yeah.” I replied. “It doesn’t take much these days.”
Dr Harlow nodded and showed me to a room where I could rest while Tyson went with a nurse to learn how to clean and dress my burns.
They hadn’t healed much, even if I could feel them itching a lot. I was hoping it meant that they were getting better, but they were still an angry red and I couldn’t be without the bandages without being at risk for infection. The doctors warned me that my body is so worn down from the wolfsbane that an infection would probably kill me in hours.
As soon as my head hit the pillow, I basically passed out and didn’t wake up until hours later. When I opened my eyes again, I saw Tyson sitting by the side of the bed looking at his phone. I let out a groan and he immediately sat up straighter while putting his phone on the nightstand. He took my hand while I blinked to adjust my eyes to the light.
“Hi.” He whispered.
“Hi.” I replied.
“How are you feeling?” He asked.
I chuckled.
“I feel like I want to get out of here.” I replied.
Tyson grinned.
“I like the sound of that.” He said and stood up.
I giggled when he gently lifted me off the bed and carried me down the hallway. When we reached the elevator, I saw two warriors waiting, each holding two bags. They followed us into the elevator and into the garage where they loaded the bags into the car. I narrowed my eyes in suspicion and looked at Tyson.
“What exactly have you planned?” I asked.
“You’ll see.” He replied. “Right now, you’re going to take it easy, enjoy the ride, and sleep if you need to.”
I was about to mention that I had just woken up, but a headache made my head pound and I decided to sleep as much as possible so that I would feel stronger when we arrived at wherever we were going.
Once Tyson put me down in the backseat, I laid down to close my eyes again, feeling slightly frustrated that I barely had any energy even though I was barely moving.
When the car stopped, I sat up and saw that we were at an airfield just outside of London. The Maxwell Building private jet was standing on the taxiway, and my eyes widened.
“Now you have me intrigued.” I smiled when Tyson helped me out of the car. “When are you going to tell me where we are going?”
“When we get there.” Tyson shrugged.
I chuckled and leaned my head against his shoulder as he carried me to the plane.
“I trust you.” I whispered. “Take me wherever you want.”
“Good.” Tyson replied and kissed my nose.
He settled me down in a comfortable chair, and I lazily looked out the window while waiting for the staff to finish the last preparations for takeoff.
Tyson sat down in the chair next to mine and he buckled his seatbelt while a man in a pilot’s uniform came up to us.
“Alpha, Luna.” He greeted. “I hear that the Alpha is taking you on a surprise trip.”
“I don’t suppose you could tell me where we are going?” I smiled.
The pilot chuckled.
“Unfortunately not, Luna.” He replied. “Alpha’s orders.”
I shook my head in disbelief while Tyson thanked the pilot, who disappeared into the cockpit.
The plane took off down the runway, and Tyson fed me some M&M’s and had me drink from a juice pack while I watched the clouds outside.
It didn’t take long before the pilots announced that we were about to land, and I frowned at Tyson.
“Seriously, where are you taking me?” I asked.
Tyson chuckled and shook his head.
“Not yet, my love.” He said and kissed my nose while I playfully pouted.
Suddenly, a sad smile took over his handsome face.
“I’m happy that you still feel comfortable joking around like this with me.” He whispered. “After what I did…”
He sighed.
“I just never thought that we could get back to being like we used to, ever again.” He mumbled. “Thank you for coming back to me.”
“I know it wasn’t your fault.” I replied. “You have to start believing it too.”
He nodded and looked down.
“I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself.” He said and took my hands in his. “I still remember everything that happened.”
“That’s why you’re a victim too.” I whispered. “This is going to haunt you for a long time, and I’m sorry that I ran away from you after the spell was broken. It feels like it all just made everything worse.”
“This has been the most painful experience of my life.” Tyson admitted. “This is even worse than when you were a prisoner of the vampires. Back then, I still had some hope that you would be okay. This time, I saw very clearly that you weren’t, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop you from getting hurt.”
I started to fear that Tyson let his guilt take over too much, so I let go of his hands, cupped his cheeks and made him look at me.
“Don’t let this drown you.” I whispered. “I’m right here. I can’t say I’m okay, but thanks to all of our friends, there is a chance that I will be someday.”
Tyson let out a breath and nodded.
“You’re right.” He said and smiled. “Not just pretty and powerful, you’re as wise as the Gods.”
I chuckled while the plane flew through the clouds, and seconds later I could see the ground as we approached the runway.
When we touched down I pressed my nose against the window trying to find anything that could tell me where I was.
When I saw the sign on the terminal, I gasped as tears filled my eyes. Tyson kissed my temple and softly whispered in my ear:
“Welcome to Sweden, Valeria.”
