Valeria POV
I woke up feeling nauseous and I let out a whimper. I immediately felt Tyson’s arms around me.
“I think I’m gonna be sick.” I muttered.
I used my powers to frantically grab hold of a bowl that shot through the air towards the bed. I emptied the contents of my stomach into the bowl while coughing violently. Tyson held my hair back and looked at me with concern written all over his face.
“I’m sorry.” I croaked out.
“Don’t be sorry.” He muttered and took the bowl from me.
He stiffened and looked at the bowl.
“Valeria, there’s blood in here.” He said softly.
“Oh.” I whispered.
Tyson put the bowl down and came back to the bed. He cupped my cheeks and looked at me with so much pain in his eyes that I almost started crying.
“It’s getting worse.” He mumbled. “And it’s only been a few days.”
I gulped.
“Let’s just hope Mr Sampson can find Dr Rollins before it’s too late.” I whispered.
Tyson shook his head.
“In the meantime, you need to rest.” He replied. “I’m really sorry. I should have handled everything with the witches by myself so that it wouldn’t put a strain on you.”
I frowned.
“No, don’t do that.” I said. “I can’t sleep the rest of my life away. Besides, this is my pack too and I want to help protect it.”
Tyson sighed.
“And I love you for that.” He replied. “But you need to take care of yourself now.”
I pouted my lips.
“I’m still not sleeping my life away.” I muttered.
“Fine.” Tyson said and got up from the bed. “You don’t want to stay on bedrest? Then we don’t do that.”
“Umm- yeah.” I said hesitantly, not sure what he was thinking.
“There’s nothing I hate more than to sit by and watch you wither away.” He said and sat down by his laptop on the coffee table. “And right now, the cure is out of our reach and out of our control. What we can do, is to take the time we have left, however short or long that might be, and do something together.”
I grinned.
“Now that’s more like it.” I chuckled and started to get up too.
“No.” Tyson called out and held up his hand. “You don’t move. I’ve got this.”
I chuckled again and laid back down.
“Fine.” I said and got comfortable.
I didn’t realize that I had fallen back asleep until I jerked awake and saw Tyson still sitting by his computer with a smile on his face.
I smiled softly too.
“I like it when you smile.” I whispered. “It feels like you haven’t done that in a long time.”
Tyson looked up and sauntered over to the bed. He took my hand and kissed my fingers.
“Would you be mad if I told you that I wanted to take you away from here?” He asked.
I grinned.
“Nope.” I chirped.
“Do you trust me?” He asked.
I nodded.
“Alright.” He grinned.
He took my phone from the nightstand and gave it to me.
“Mr Sampson still might need some help.” He said. “I’m gonna start packing. You go find sister Athena and give her your phone.”
I slowly got out of bed, grimacing in pain as my skin burned. I took the phone from Tyson and walked out of the room.
Walking might be the wrong word to use. Ever since the pyre, I had been using my powers to soar a few inches from the ground, making it look like I was walking.
When I passed a window, I saw sister Athena in the castle garden. I made my way outside and found her sitting on the bench by herself.
“How are things going with Emma?” I asked and sat down next to her, trying not to hiss from the stinging in the back of my thighs.
Sister Athena smiled.
“She’s perfect.” She replied. “Everything I ever dreamt of that she was going to be.”
“Yeah it’s quite extraordinary that she came all the way here, following what her visions were telling her and trusting her power at such a young age.” I nodded.
“Indeed.” Sister Athena whispered and looked at me. “There’s a reason why you sought me out, isn’t there?”
I nodded.
“I wanted to give you this.” I replied and handed her my phone. “I’m going to take a break for a little while. It seems as if my condition is getting worse faster than we thought, so Tyson is going to take me away from all the stress.”
Sister Athena chuckled.
“It sounds like a really good idea.” She said. “I can see that the Black Rose coven isn’t ready for an attack just yet. We have a few extra days to prepare ourselves. And Black Rose coven doesn’t have a witch seer, so they don’t know that I’m here.”
“I’m really glad that you came here.” I admitted. “You’ve been a great help.”
“Thank you.” Sister Athena smiled and reached out her hand.
A red leaf lifted from the ground and soared over to her open palm.
“Do you know why witches are afraid of you, Valeria?” She asked.
I shook my head.
“Besides from the obvious reason, you mean?” I frowned.
“Well your powers are definitely the reason.” Sister Athena replied. “But not in the way you think.”
The leaf in sister Athena’s hand soared a few inches from her palm, slowly twirling on its own.
“Use your powers and tell me what you can feel.” Sister Athena instructed.
My eyes glowed white as I stared at the leaf.
“I can feel it.” I gasped in astonishment. “The energy around the leaf. It’s like…”
“A web.” Sister Athena finished. “A witch uses the power from her aura to weave a web. Different spells have different patterns, and some webs can only be broken with a counterweb that dissolves it.”
“Mhm.” I hummed, still staring at the floating leaf while feeling the web with my powers.
“That’s why you’re so dangerous.” Sister Athena. “Use your powers to tear the web.”
I glanced at Athena before gripping the web, tearing it to pieces. The leaf fell into sister Athena’s palm again and she closed her hand around it.
“That’s the thing about you.” She said. “You don’t need a counterweb for a spell. And that’s what makes you so dangerous to a witch. Your powers can stop any spell, if you know how.”
“I didn’t know that.” I mumbled. “How did they figure out that I could do it when I didn’t even know?”
“I’m not sure if they actually do.” Sister Athena replied. “But they fear that you can, and that, along with your reputation of being the most powerful lycan queen that ever existed, makes you a threat to witches.”
“Do you see me as a threat?” I asked.
Sister Athena shrugged.
“Yes and no.” She replied. “If you wanted to, you could kill me on the spot and my powers would be rendered useless. But I’ve watched your path in the prophecies, and I’ve gotten to know you as a person. I know you have a pure heart. So no, you are not a threat.”
“Oh.” I said. “Thanks, for believing in me.”
Sister Athena chuckled.
“Now I believe that you have a car waiting for you.” She grinned and pointed at Tyson coming towards us.
I smiled and stood up.
“Have fun.” Sister Athena grinned and watched us as Tyson took my hand and led me out of the garden.
