Chapter 1
"There's nothing serious. Just make sure to rest," I said, keeping my irritation in check. She had simply fallen out of bed—was this worth dragging me out in the middle of the night?
I grabbed my medical kit, ready to leave, when I heard it again.
'Her side profile when she bends down is absolutely stunning.'
I froze mid-bend, nearly pulling a muscle.
Gavin quickly stepped forward to steady me, his large hand gripping my arm.
I turned my head, staring at him, but his lips weren't moving.
I wasn't imagining it. I knew Gavin's voice anywhere—he was my ex, after all.
But how could Gavin, the ever-cold and stoic Alpha, be thinking such shameless thoughts? It didn't match his usual image at all.
While I was lost in thought, his voice rang out again.
'I could hold her arm forever. It feels so good to touch.'
I stared at his mouth. Not a word came out.
A bizarre idea began to form in my head—was I hearing his inner voice?
I quickly pulled my arm away and said, "If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."
Before the words even left my mouth, his voice surfaced again.
'Why is she running off so quickly? Does she hate me that much?'
That confirmed it. The ever-composed Alpha was chattering away in his mind like a lovesick fool.
As I stepped out of the villa, my phone pinged with a notification—Gavin had just sent me $3,000 as payment.
Another message followed.
Gavin: Wait, I'll send a driver to take you home.
I replied politely.
Freya: Thank you, Alpha.
Being born a healer wasn't the blessing it seemed. My life was far from easy, and I had paid a steep price for my gift.
When I turned 18, I didn't receive the Moon Goddess's blessing.
I never understood why she didn't choose a mate for me. Worse, I was born with a gland defect, making me almost entirely insensitive to mate bonds.
I tried countless methods to fix it, but nothing worked.
That night, as I lay in bed, memories of my past resurfaced.
I was 15 when it all began. Back then, Gavin wasn't the Alpha yet.
That year, my parents died during a brutal pack conflict.
My aunt, Sophia Carter, took me in. She was wealthy and lived in the same villa district as other prominent wolf pack families and their children.
She had a daughter my age, Janet Wilson, who was my cousin.
By that time, my healing abilities had already matured. I spent most of my days treating patients at home, and with Sophia's financial support, I was planning to open a rehabilitation center nearby.
But Janet was always restless and insistent that I join her in her adventures. One day, she begged me to watch a soccer match with her.
I had no interest in sports, but I reluctantly agreed.
While my mind was occupied with plans for the rehabilitation center, Janet tugged on my sleeve.
"Look at that boy in black," she whispered excitedly.
I followed her gaze. She had clearly dragged me there just to see him. The crowd of girls gathered nearby confirmed that he wa s the main attraction.
The boy in black was Gavin.
