Chapter Four.

1484 Words
The same waitress comes back to our table after we took our seats. I sit there glaring at Michael. Waiting for him to do something that will piss me off or hurt me. "Hello my name is Lena, I'll be your waitress this morning. Can I get you anything to drink in the meantime?" She asks pulling out a little book to write our orders in. Michael gives her a wink and her, immediately annoying, giggle echoes in my head. I feel nonexistent sitting here, like the third wheel. Left out of their conversation even though I'm the one in this heartbreaking, messed up relationship. I stand up and walk out of the restaurant ignoring Michael calling from behind me. Tear threatening to escape my eyes so I squeeze them shut, keeping them from falling while I take a deep long breath and control my emotions. I'm stronger than this. I won't let him affect me to the point that I cry over him. "Peaches!" I shout standing outside the restaurant doors. I see her running towards me from the alley, a smile showing on my face as I watch her making her way to me. She meows and follows me, slowing my pace so she can easily keep up. We walk peacefully until we get to the corner of the busy street. Glances being shared between me and peaches. Ignoring the strange looks people are giving us. I walk into the library on the corner of the road and get greeted by Mrs.Smith. Her thin, grey hair in an afro and her, overly large, glasses slipping off the bridge of her small nose as she looks up at me. I give her a warm smile and wave, introducing her to my new friend. Her eyes falling on peaches as smile appearing. Peaches jumps onto her counter and purrs at the old lady that is now gently stroking her back. "We have new books in the back honey" she says pointing down the hall, her eyes still on peaches. "Thank you!" I shout over my shoulder, making my way over to the back of the library with peaches following soon behind me. I scan through the books. Not really reading the names of the books. My mind not allowing me to concentrate on what I'm doing instead determined to think about my 'date' with Michael. Instead my mind is racing with the thought of Michael always flirting with other women every time we're together and only God knows what he does behind my back. My heart slowly aching as my thoughts make me relive the feelings and heartbreak. I sigh and sit on the chair by the window being greeted by the sun. My skin heating as the rays of sun caresses me. I look at peaches getting comfortable on the windowsill. I smile and think of mom again. She would have loved Peaches and probably dragged her along everywhere. I still can't believe she's gone. I know it's wrong to live in denial but I can't help it. She's always been there for me and now she's no longer in my corner or there for Kelsey anymore. We got Mary when mom got diagnosed with cancer and spent most of her time in hospital not really being able to look after Kels and me being in school I couldn't look after her either. I feel a finger tap on my shoulder making me snap out of my thoughts and jump out my seat immediately wiping a tear that escaped. "Easy." He said with amusement. "What are you doing here?" I ask, looking at him in disbelief. His emerald eyes locking with my own "I work here just to help my grandmothers' friend out front." He said shrugging as he pointed at Mrs.Smith with his thumb. "Oh" I say sitting again. "Any books you're interested in?" He asks taking the seat across from me. Peaches wide eyes move from me to Dean. "No peaches. Enough with the attitude you've been giving everyone." I say looking at her then at Dean. He looks at me confused before his eyes fall onto peaches. He smiles at peaches and motions to touch her but she stands and whacks his hand with her paw. I laugh and shake my head at her. "She's not very friendly" he says looking over his hand for any scratches, I'm assuming. Peaches jumps from the windowsill onto my lap with ease. "No it seems she just doesn't like men." I say holding the cat against me. Slightly squeezing her "She hissed at my dad and my boyfriend this morning and now, at you" I say giving a short laugh kissing the top of the cat's head. His eyes full of emotion that I can't pinpoint but it disappears within seconds, as he stares at me, his mouth in a thin line as he seems to calculate something while I watch the wheels turn in his head through his eyes "Can I try something?" He asks leaning towards me breaking out of his thoughts. I nod and let go of peaches that is now just sitting on my lap. Dean slowly moves his hand to my leg and peaches hiss vibrates through me as she stares at his hand. Her eyes in thin slits while she stares He continues moving his hand towards me and her hissing getting louder. She whacks his hand again, hissing louder with a low growl soon following after. We both laugh as I pull peaches into a hug and let her go again while he retreats his hand and rests it in his lap. Deafening silence filling my ears and I start feeling uncomfortable feeling the emerald eyes still staring at me. "I'm going to head home, bye" I say quickly standing and heading for the door. Dean calling from behind me but I ignore him; it doesn't feel right making friends with a guy while I'm in a relationship. I don't want anyone fighting. "Goodbye Mrs Smith. I'll see you soon." I say making my way out the library after she waves goodbye. I'm trying so hard to ignore Dean and I honestly don't know why. I get strange feelings when he's around and I don't even know him that well. I don't understand what these feelings are either never mind not knowing him all that well. Peaches ran down the street and I chase after her. Not easy running with heels on but I tried anyway. I eventually stopped running because I could no longer see peaches so I start my walk home. It's only a twenty minute walk at least. Not long after peaches' appears by my side again. "Where did you go? Naughty kitty" I ask looking down at her. She looks up and gives me a short meow. This cat is really a blessing. She's adorable too. Mom would have loved her. I smile at the thought and head to the closest park with peaches. There are dogs running around in the park so I'm a bit worried to have her with me. I look down at peaches but she's no longer next to me. I scan the park calling to her and eventually I hear a faint meow and dogs barking. Well dogs don't waste time. My heart beating fast at the thought of a dog running after her. Between it's sharp teeth. I run over to where the dogs are barking and see peaches on a large tree branch high up. I place my index and thumb in my mouth and make a loud whistle. Everyone in the park looks at me and the dogs are now quiet. A group of people start walking towards the large group of dogs'. I'm assuming it's the owners of these dogs. The leashes of the dogs get placed on their collars and pulled away from the tree. I told my hands out to peaches "Come peaches. Jump I'll catch you" I say waiting for her to jump. She meows and jumps straight into my arms. Immediately holding onto her "Your cat is something else. I've never see a cat act like that before" an elderly man says from behind me. I give him a questioning look and he continues speaking. "Usually people have to get a ladder to get a cat out of the tree but you and your cat are very different. She jumped into your arms. It was a strange sighting but that's very beautiful and you're very lucky to have a cat like that young lady." He said and turned around to stroll off. I smiled at peaches the rest of the way home. She was like a kitten in my arms. Her eyes were closed but her tail still wagging. "We're almosthome peaches" I say as she gave a small purr and carried on wagging hertail. She really is special.
