💎 Episode 1 — The Stranger in the Office
💎 Episode 1 — The Stranger in the Office "A new employee humiliates her boss on the first day — unaware he owns the company." --- The glass doors of Mehra Global Enterprises slid open with a hiss, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the sterile chill of morning air. It was 8:45 a.m. — the first day of Meera Sharma, a young journalist turned corporate researcher, who still couldn’t believe she had landed a job at one of India’s most powerful media houses. Her heels clicked on the marble floor as she walked through the wide lobby, holding a folder close to her chest like armor. Calm down, Meera. Just a job, not a battlefield, she told herself. But deep down, she felt it — the sharp edge of curiosity that had always guided her career. Something about this company seemed too perfect, too clean, too secretive. Rumors whispered that its founder had never been seen publicly, that the CEO changed faces like seasons, and that people who asked too many questions… didn’t last long. Still, curiosity was Meera’s curse. --- “Ms. Sharma?” a crisp voice interrupted her thoughts. A woman in a grey suit stood beside the reception desk. Her badge read Nisha Kapoor — HR Director. “Good morning,” Meera smiled, slightly nervous. “Welcome to Mehra Global,” Nisha said, leading her through the long corridor lined with glass offices. “You’ll be working under Mr. Rahul Kapoor, our operations manager. He’s strict but fair. Don’t let his silence fool you.” “Mr. Kapoor,” Meera repeated, filing the name away. When they reached his office, the door was slightly ajar. Inside, a man sat at the edge of his desk, reading a file. --- He wasn’t what she expected. Tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in a charcoal-black suit that seemed tailor-cut to his frame. His hair was dark, slightly tousled, and a faint stubble traced his jawline. But it was his eyes — sharp, unreadable, and impossibly calm — that made her hesitate at the door. He looked up slowly. Their eyes met. For a fraction of a second, Meera forgot to breathe. --- “You must be the new researcher,” he said in a low voice that carried authority without effort. “Meera Sharma.” “Yes, sir.” “You’re late.” Her heart skipped. “It’s only 8:55—” “I said nine sharp,” he interrupted, his gaze never leaving hers. “In my office, five minutes early means on time. Five minutes late means you’ve already failed.” A flare of irritation burned in her chest. “Then perhaps you should clarify your definition of time before hiring people.” The air turned sharp. Nisha’s eyes widened, but Rahul simply smiled faintly — the kind of smile that wasn’t friendly, but dangerous. “Noted,” he said, closing the file. “Let’s see if your words are as strong as your work.” --- The day passed in tense silence. Meera sat outside his office, analyzing financial documents she barely understood, while Rahul occasionally glanced at her through the glass wall. His gaze was constant, heavy — like a test she didn’t know she was taking. By noon, she’d had enough. When he called her in to discuss a report, she walked in with her head high. “This report,” he said, holding up a page, “is sloppy. You’ve missed key links between the shareholders’ transactions and the media acquisitions. Explain.” She clenched her jaw. “Maybe your files are incomplete.” Rahul leaned back, watching her with interest. “Are you implying I gave you wrong data?” “I’m implying that I don’t take orders blindly,” she said, matching his tone. “If you want an obedient clerk, find someone else. I was hired as a researcher, not a puppet.” Nisha, standing nearby, froze. But Rahul… laughed. A deep, quiet, unnerving laugh. --- “Dismissed,” he said finally, his voice smooth. Meera turned on her heel and stormed out, her heels echoing down the corridor. As she vanished around the corner, Rahul’s smile faded, and his eyes darkened. “Bold,” he murmured. “Too bold.” He reached into his drawer and pulled out a hidden file. On the cover, in black letters, it read: “Confidential — M. Sharma Case Study.” He flipped it open. Inside was Meera’s photo, a background report… and a handwritten note at the bottom: > Subject unaware of personal connection. Observation to continue under Project Genesis. Rahul traced his finger over her photo — a faint smirk touching his lips. “So,” he whispered, “you’ve finally walked into my world, Meera.” --- Later that evening, when the office emptied, Meera returned to grab her forgotten notebook. The lights were dim, the air cold. She paused outside Rahul’s cabin — the glass wall gleaming faintly in the dark. Through the reflection, she saw him still inside, sitting in silence. His head was bowed slightly, his hand resting on a silver ring he kept turning around his finger. For a moment, he looked… broken. Then his gaze flicked up, and their eyes met through the glass. Neither moved. Neither blinked. Something in her chest shifted — a strange pull she couldn’t explain. She turned quickly and walked away. Behind her, Rahul rose slowly from his chair. Through the glass wall, he watched her silhouette fade into the elevator’s reflection — and for the first time, a shadow of a smile curved his lips. --- Rahul smiles darkly as he watches Meera walk away. Who exactly is Rahul Mehra? Why does he already know her name… and why is she part of a secret file marked Project Genesis? ---
