The wolf stands in front of me, his teeth bared. My arms are shaking, and my knees feel weak. I turn to run, but I trip over my feet and hit the ground on the heels of my palms. I feel blood on my hands, and I flip over to face the wolf. I back away from him, my feet scrambling in the loose rocks and dead leaves on the trail. The wolf lets out a low growl that makes my lungs shake in my chest. I hear a whimper and realize it’s my own voice. I close my eyes tightly, and I feel the wolf’s breath on my face.
