I hook my fingers into the chainlinks and start to pull myself up. When my feet leave the ground, I hear Taylor let out a whoop above me, but I don’t dare look up at her. The fence starts to shake under my weight as I shove my foot into one of the metal squares. I can hear my blood rushing in my ears, but I keep pulling myself up. My hand reaches up and I feel the top bar. I curl my fingers tightly around it and take a deep breath before I look down. My feet are only 3 feet off the ground, but it feels like miles. Taylor is sitting on the edge of the fence beside me. “You did it!” She yells, laughing. She holds up a hand for a high five, and I return it gently, afraid of losing my balance in the recoil. “Come on, let’s go!” With that, she turns and starts climbing down the opposite side.
