I stop right inside the door, blinking a few times to help my eyes adjust. It happens faster than I expect. Once I’m inside, it almost looks bright in here. There’s some old mill equipment, dusty and clearly abandoned. I run my finger through the dust, absentmindedly doodling my name in cursive while I look around. It’s largely a big open room. I assume it’s what you’d expect to see in a factory, but it doesn’t look as abandoned as I expected. I see a circle surrounding an extinguished bonfire. I walk up and touch the ashes to find they’re cold, but I’m kind of disappointed to realize this wasn’t recent enough to tell when it happened. My nose is filled with the scent of old wood smoke.
