As soon as Al is gone, Sam turns to Taylor and she disappears into his embrace. I hear Taylor sniff into Sam’s chest, and I turn away to give them some privacy. I turn and my gaze meets Alex’s.
He meets my gaze and a silent battle passes between us. He eventually turns away, but I don’t really feel like I’ve won.
“What the hell did he mean he’d see you at the meeting?” I demand of Alex.
“It’s nothing,” Alex says, too quickly and with too much anxiety hiding behind his eyes.
“Yeah, Alex, what the hell did he mean? Tell me you’re not considering his offer.” Sam turns slightly away from Taylor, just enough to make eye contact with us. I can see he looks shaken too.
“Sam, relax. I’m just exploring options.”
“These aren’t good options,” Sam says forcefully.
