Prologue
"....I want us to break up" she suddenly dropped the bombshell again, causing his already bruised heart to shatter a million pieces more.
"W..what? Why" he suddenly whispered, not being able to find his voice anymore.
"Isn't it obvious? Cuz I'm tired of this freaking thing already, and I want out!" She blasted again.
That seemed to finally push a button. He frowned deeply and clenched his fists tightly, before pointing it at her face,
"THING?! you call our relationship of almost two years now just a mere thing? All the battles we've fought, all the things we went through... They just seemed like a thing to you? Is that really how you see it Amelie?"
Those words pierced her like a sword, but she couldn't falter or loose her composure now. She had to do this because it was what needed to be done...it was the right thing to do.
"I'm sorry if you're hurt Damien, but I can't change my mind now.. or anytime soon. I've already made my decision, and that's final" she managed to speak.
At first, he didn't respond. He deepened his frown thoughtfully and glared daggers at her. Then it suddenly hit him.
"It's him isn't it?"
"W.. what?"
"Is that bastard again right? He's the one behind all this, isn't he?"
She couldn't help but groan in frustration, even though he was obviously saying the truth. Couldn't he get the message already?
"Damien, it has nothing to do with hi...."
"JUST STOP!...STOP WITH ALL THE LIES, OKAY? Why are you defending him anyways? He's the enemy here..."
"Damien...."
"I'm going to kill him....I'm going to find that bastard and gut him alive....."
"Damien...."
"I'm going to make him wish he never set those measly eyes on you...."
"DAMIEN I LOVE HIM!!!!"
That suddenly seemed to freeze him in his tracks. He stayed rooted on the spot for a while before he slowly turned to meet her glazed eyes.
"What?"
Lies! That was the biggest lie she'd ever told in her entire life. She wished she could rush into his arms and hold him tightly to her arms, soothing him and telling him that all that she'd ever told him now were nothing but pure lies. That she was still his' and no one was going to change that, but she couldn't. She was almost tempted to do so, especially when she saw the small rivulets of tears dripping from his eyes, but she just turned her face away. She couldn't do this! She needed to complete her mission here, and fast, before she had a complete breakdown.
"What did you just say Amelie?"
"I..I...I don't...I said...." She fumbled with her words. She couldn't think straight anymore. She could feel the pressure of unshed tears choking her slowly, and the weight of the world coming down on her shoulders.
"Go on...I didn't hear you right..."he said with a glint of hope in his voice but it was soon knocked off as quickly as it came.
"I said I love him, Damien... I love Jason Bryant and there's nothing anyone can do about that"
"Then what about me? What about us, Amelie?"
"You?.." she choked a dry laugh, "you're just someone I wanted to kill time with. I mean, common dude...you really don't think that I would bypass the opportunity of becoming a billionaires wife cos of a mere coffee shop manager, did you? I mean let's face it... what do you really have to offer me apart from your so-called love, huh?"
He bent his head slowly and muttered an "oh"
"Exactly! You have nothing to offer me Damien.. absolutely nothing!!! And I'm not gonna miss this chance of changing my family's life forever because of your selfishness. I won't allow it. I really hope you see my point now"
"I see"
"Good. Because we, are done here. I'm done explaining myself to you....and I really hope you don't call or text me after now because I'm henceforth severing all ties with you. I wouldn't like my new husband to think I'm fooling around when our weddings only a few weeks away. I really hope you respect that decision"
He closed his eyes and breathed in, "it's okay. Thanks for everything I guess"
"You're welcome. Goodbye Damien"
She turned to leave when his voice suddenly stopped her on her tracks,
"Not even a goodbye kiss?"
She closed her eyes and clenched her purse tightly. By this time her heart was already a cesspool of shattered misery, and she needed to leave his presence quickly before he suddenly made her do the unthinkable with his tricks. So, with every fiber of muscle and will power in her, she breathed out.
"f**k you, Damien"
And she jogged away as fast as she could, letting the tears pour freely.........
