38 I was on my way to Mr. Billingsley's farm, the horse calmly climbing the hilly road, not paying too much attention. There wasn't much confusion after the turn, and horses can follow a road. The road went through a forest, a deep, thick cedar forest of the kind they have in the south, which gives amazing shade in the summer. And, since it was August, it was more than needed. Also, because it was drier, there were fewer mosquitoes. Still enough to warrant a mosquito net, but then, I never left home without it. I only took it off when working, since that requires good visibility. That's what I carried a citronella oil lamp for, which I fired on whenever was working (the smell of machine oil, diesel, and citronella aren't the most pleasant, but it beats mosquitoes).
