When Mr. Billingsley called Mr. Braham, the head office thought that Mrs. Bedwen was at the construction site. They didn't approve of her side job, but she usually did her main job, didn't she? Except this time, for some reason.
Mr. Braham decided he would scold Mrs. Bedwen when he saw her and left it at that.
But when Dana, who had promised to be at the construction site after lunch, didn't come, Mr. Trent called Mr. Billingsley's farm.
"What do you mean, she didn't come?" Mr. Trent asked when Mr. Billingsley complained. "She was on her way there, last I saw her."
"She didn't come," Mr. Billingsley said, sounding worried now. "Did she fall? The road is treacherous, even in the summer. I'll go check."
"Yes, please, Mr. Billingsley," Mr. Trent said, and hanged the phone.
