I wasn't too happy with Grandpa and the Major, either, but it wasn't like I could even convince them they were wrong.
They were my Masters, and although their rights over me were not unlimited like in the past, they still had significant power over me. They were also older, and men.
The Major, a dark mage, was used to women being weaker than him. Because we are; dark males are stronger than dark females, that's a fact of life. Not necessarily magically, but the strongest mages are male.
Grandpa is a light mage, and they're even worse than dark mages. I mean, dark arall never blocked female arall magic, thinking they would need all the strength they could get. Light arall used to block light females. That was certainly the case during the Inquisition times. That is still the case in
