From the Life Before

Maze P.O.V Over the next few weeks, I've been doing the same routine. Wake up, shower, dress, eat, study, eat, more studying, eat, shower, sleep, repeat. Damien was right; time does pass by fast when you dive yourself into work. I wake up and look out the terrace, taking in the rays of light across my face. I take my shower, put on my dress, and head downstairs. Damien and I haven't talked much, only when I have questions. All that would fill the void would be the wind flying through the windows as we walked down the halls We arrive at the kitchen and I met up with Ashley;     "So, are you excited?" she said hyped. I was confused by her excitement. I haven't been paying attention to much of the announcements in the last few days.     "No, I haven't what's going on? Is there a celebration coming up?" I asked her. She laughed at my response since I was so clueless.     "No lady. We get to see our families today!" She said. Wait, has it already been 30 days?! I've been so stuck in work, the days passed.     "What? When are they coming? Are they coming after breakfast?" I asked for rapidly.     "Calm down, They come after breakfast, but when it's close to lunchtime," she said. I can't wait to see my family again, I have so much to tell them. I want this one normal thing to remain close to me.     "But it will take a while, let's just get ready to start the day." She said. We continue eating breakfast and talking about what we had to do today. We finish and say goodbye. I head back with Damien to my room. The awkward silence kills me having to deal with it. I decided to break the silence.     "Are you excited to see your family today?" I asked nervously. He didn't seem to be in the mood to talk. I chose to just not continue. But then he spoke;     "My family lives far away, so I don't have high hopes that they'll make it." He said. I know that I'm not fond of him, but I felt sad for him, he couldn't see his family and be able to hear them talk to him. We let the silence go by for a few seconds.     "How long has it been since you've seen them?" I asked him.     "I don't remember. Three months maybe?" He said. He wasn't been able to see his family for three months? I've only been here for a month and I miss my family like crazy. How does he hold up?     "Well, I hope you can see your family. I'm sure they miss you." I said smiling. Damien Thoughts -Does she really mean what she said? Not many of the royals know about my situation with my family let alone ask about it. Only Max and the captain know about it and they know how much I hate pitiful people. At least she doesn't pity mean like other people;- Maze P.O.V     "Thanks, Kid." He said jokingly.     "My name's Maze! M-A-Z-E." I said loudly. He kept walking ahead and I ran to catch up. We briefly talk about how we would be seeing our families and mainly just questions about it. We arrive at my room and I meet with Ms. Riley. I learned about the different principals of law throughout the kingdoms and the new ones instituted in recent years. The amount of changes that can be done in only a few years amazes me. I've gotten better at learning the information and being able to remember all of it.         ~Time Skip~ I look at the clock and realize that it was time for me to see my family.      "You're excited to see your family Princess?" said the teacher. I didn't say anything worried I might say something wrong, instead, I just shyly nod my head with a smile.     "Me too. My husband is arriving on his trip to the Southern Kingdom. He's a merchant trader for the kingdom." She said while packing up.     "Well, I think he's very lucky to have you as his wife," I said happily. She smiled and finished packing up when we hear a knock on my door. It was Damien.     "Princess, It's time to see your family." He said. I felt like my whole mood was boosted. I got up and ran towards the door. Before I left, I turned to Mrs. Riley, "Have fun today. You deserve it." I said, smiling.     "You too, Princess," She said. After that, we leave. I raced down the halls, feeling the air pass through my feet and face, as I see myself going closer to the ground of the castle. I finally reached the entrance of the castle and met up with Ashley. We greet each other and I meet up with the other chefs. The king arrives from his terrace and speaks,     "Welcome family members of our Royal staff. We welcome you with open arms and hope you enjoy your time with your families!" He says cheerfully. Everyone spreads out and meets up with their families. It makes me happy to see their families. I look around trying to find my parents and my brother. I then see a hand waving in the air and a person screaming, "Maze! Honey!" I walk closer and I see my mom and dad smiling at me, behind them my brother also smiling. I felt myself pushing my whole body forward as I run straight into my mother's arms. I felt safe and protected in her arms, that's a feeling I treasure every chance I can.     "What about us?" said my dad. My brother and Dad joined in the hug. I missed this feeling of safety and love.      "Oh my gosh, sweety! You look so beautiful," she said.     "Thanks, mom. How are you guys since I left?" I asked. She told me that everyone was fine and told me about how dad's got a promotion at work. Rebecca joins us and begins to brag about her life was next to the queen. She didn't tell them about how the queen was treating her, but I didn't pressure her to. She must have a reason why. We arrive at the cafeteria and talk with Ashley for a bit. We get our food and sit down and talk. I notice that Damien was sitting with a woman and a man who looked like her husband. I guess he got to see his family after all.     "Also, Maze. I'm going to start working next week in the castle," said Austin.  I felt my face light up, "Really?! You'll be here?" I said. He laughed and then said, "Yes, but I still need to figure somethings out." I would be able to talk with my brother more. Maybe I can see him during my day. We continue eating and catching up. This felt amazing. Being with your loved ones feels amazing.         ~Time Skip~ It was almost sundown. We spent the afternoon talking, and viewing the castle grounds. My brother met up with some of his friends in the workshop and my mom was in awe of the garden. It was time to say goodbye. We hugged them one last time.     "Have a safe trip mom," I said hugging her tightly.     "Thank you, sweety. Stay safe." said mom.         "Be careful around those boys in there and if they make you cry, tell me and I'll teach them a lesson!" said dad angry. I laughed at his remark. "I can hand myself, dad."       "Well, you're still my princess," he said pouting.     "I'll see you next week, sis." said my brother.     "See you then," I said. They entered the carriage and we waved goodbye until they passed the castle entrance. I feel much better now. I go to my room, take a shower, and get ready for bed. I lay on the bed, reliving moments from today. I slowly drift the sleep, feeling at peace.
