Planning an Outing

Maze P.O.V

It’s been a week since the family meeting in the castle. As I waited for my brother’s arrival at the castle, I continued my studies once again with Mrs. Riley. The study’s become more interesting as the days go by. A few days ago, we began going through simulations of different scenarios that happen throughout the kingdom. I’ve been eating with the family, but I don’t talk much since they don’t involve me much. I do talk to Kyle outside the family, but with my studies, it’s always cut off.

You never realize how much a person sacrifices until you have to stand in their place. I’ve been feeling drained from all the studies and scenarios I go through, I just want to go out and hang out with Ashley.

I head downstairs and eat breakfast with Ashley.

    “I swear, I need a break from all this studying. My brain feels like it’s about to explode,” I said drained.

    “I’m sure you’ll be ok, besides you’ll get a break after lunch since you’ll see your brother,” She said.

    “I know, just wish I didn’t have to study anymore. I mean, it feels like I’m still in school,” I said.

    “Yeah, well my hair smells like grease and the head chef is a meathead. But we have to suck it up, we might appreciate it later.” She said picking up our plates.

I continue to think of Ashley’s words as I continue my studies. Being appreciative of living in a castle, closed off to my family on the outside, and being disliked by my relatives isn’t so easy. But I am grateful for having my best friend with me and people like Mary and Kyle to talk to. 

My thoughts are interrupted by a knock on my door. I open the door to see Mary on the other side.

    “Good afternoon, Maze. Your brother has arrived at the castle gates. I just wanted to inform you,” She said bowing down.

    “Really? Thanks, Mary. Also, you know you don’t have to bow to me. Just treat me like a normal person,” I said smiling.

She smiled back at me and excused herself.

I get myself ready and tell Damien to follow me downstairs. I rushed to reach the doors to see my brother. Damien was yelling at me saying I was going to fall. Never thought the big strong bodyguard would be yelling to a girl to slow down. This was fun. I finally reach the bottom of the stairs and open the castle doors. I could see my brother getting out of the carriage. I rush up to him and hug him. Even though we saw each other a week ago, It felt like I hadn’t seen him in years.

    “It’s nice to see you too, sis.” said my brother, smiling.

    “You saved me from another lesson,” I said dramatically.

My brother laughed at my remark and talked about his trip. He also told me mom and dad told him to make sure no boys go near their “precious daughter.” I know that was my dad’s saying because my mom always wanted me to find someone who understood me.

We enter the castle and talk while we head down to the blacksmith workshop. We enter the workshop and see all the works at their job. The harmony of their work is what helps the world go round. This is a big part of what we need to succeed. 

    “How you doin’ guys?” said my brother loudly.

Everyone turned around and cheered once they saw my brother. Most of them were his friends from school and others from the town. They began talking and I left to give them time. We later see each other at dinner time. I usually would be sitting with the royals, but I’m not forced to sit with them. I sit with my brother, along with his workers and Ashley and Mary. We c***k some jokes and talk about our days. I felt more important being around them, it was nice. Damien at with his guard friends, but he didn’t seem to be too pleased.

We finish dinner and head to our rooms. I talk with my brother on our way back. It’s nice that I’ll have a family to talk to here; Besides Rebecca, who pretends to not know me.

    “If this guy causes you problems, just tell me,” said Austin pointing to Damien, I chuckle at his promise. 

    “Alright, I will,” I said.

My brother and I part, waving goodbye, with me heading back to my room. I tease Damien about what my brother said. He was just ignoring me, but I could tell he wasn’t happy about it. I arrive at my room and do my routine to head to bed. I felt so exhausted that I just passed away to sleep.

        ~The Next day~

I wake up from my beauty sleep and start my day. I felt revived from the hot water hitting my skin. I walk down the hall with Damien to see Ashley packing a bag with her.

    “Where are you off to?” I asked her.

    “I going to head to the town to buy some supplies with your brother,” she said.

    “Can I come with you? My studies aren’t until the afternoon,” I asked.

    “I guess, but don’t you have to ask permission?” She said worriedly.

    “The royals don’t watch what I’m doing. Besides, It’s only until this afternoon.” I said.

    “Alright, well eat breakfast and get ready,” she said.

I rush to eat breakfast and then head to my room to change. As I head out, I notice Kyle walking down the hall;

    “Hey, Kyle! Are you doing anything?” I asked him.

He looked confused and said, “Not really why?”

    “Well I’m heading to town with my friend, do you wanna come with us?” I asked.

He hesitated with his response, but answers, “Let me ask my father and I’ll get back to you.” He said going to the King.

        ~Sometime later~

I wait, wondering if Kyle had gotten permission from his father to go with us. Not seeing him made me assume the king said no.

    “Come on Maze, we have to get going.” Said Ashley.

I begin to head towards her, but hear a voice say, “Wait!” I turn around and see Kyle running towards me.

Ashley and Austin bow down saying, “Your highness.”

    “It’s alright, my father isn’t around so you don’t need to do that.” He said nervously.

    “I invited Kyle since I thought he’d like to visit the town,” I said smiling.

    “I hope I’m not interrupting something.” He said.

Ashley and Austin look at each other smiling and Ashley said, “Not at all Prince Kyle, well let’s start our adventure.”

We all enter the carriage and begin our outing to the heart of the kingdom, the town.
