Julian ignored Jonathan, his mind preoccupied with something else.
'It seems that I misunderstood Ms. Turner. If she hadn't gone out of her way to protect me, I would've been fired by now.' The thought warmed Julian's heart.
Jonathan noticed Julian's silence. His eyes darted around before he turned to Lyra and asked, "Lyra, what did you ever see in this loser?"
"I was fooled by his gentlemanly appearance and fake love!" Lyra snapped.
Jonathan snorted. "Your judgment is terrible. Lyra, from now on, let's not make love in the office anymore. We'll just book a room outside. After work, let's go to that hotel again!"
Lyra smirked, "Can you even handle it? We had s*x last night, and now you're ready to do it again?"
Jonathan grinned smugly. "Don't you enjoy it? I remember you were just like a sl*t last night, twisting your body like crazy..."
Their words grew more explicit with every exchange.
Julian's anger flared, surging uncontrollably. These two shameless people were saying such dirty things right in front of him, clearly trying to provoke him.
He almost lost control but managed to hold back in the end.
Julian knew that if he acted out, the elevator's surveillance cameras would catch everything. Jonathan would take the footage straight to his father and Samuel to complain. Not even Natalie would be able to protect him then.
If he were truly fired from the hospital, he'd become a disgraced outcast.
'Revenge is a dish best served cold. What's the harm in enduring this for now?' Julian reassured himself silently.
The elevator arrived at the twelfth floor, opening to a long corridor.
The hallway was crowded with patients' family members, as well as a few movable hospital beds.
There were too many patients, and the rooms couldn't accommodate them all, so extra beds had been set up in the corridor.
Jonathan shot Julian a cold glance, thinking, 'Let's see how long you can keep your composure.'
Julian noticed Jonathan's look and sensed trouble. He quickened his pace, heading toward Simon's room.
Jonathan stepped in front of him, smirking mockingly. "Julian, what's the hurry?"
Julian's expression turned wary. "What are you trying to do?"
"You'll find out soon enough," Jonathan said with a sinister grin. Then, raising his voice, he shouted down the corridor, "Hey everyone, come take a look! Let me introduce someone to you!"
Several family members immediately stepped out of nearby rooms to see what was happening.
Pointing at Julian, Jonathan addressed the crowd, "This is Julian Frost. Some of you might recognize him. He used to be an internal medicine doctor at our hospital. But because of his lack of skill, he almost caused a medical accident. I caught it in time and stopped it. And what did he do? He punched me!"
Jonathan gestured to the injury on his nose. "See this? He's the one who did it. Now he's been demoted to a nurse. Remember his face, everyone. If you ever need a nurse, don't go to him. And if you get hit, don't say I didn't warn you!"
He sneered. "He's not only violent but also incompetent, even as a nurse."
The corridor quickly filled with onlookers, most of whom didn't know the truth. After hearing Jonathan's words, they began shouting angrily, "Riverheim Hospital is supposed to be a top-tier hospital! How could they hire someone like this as a doctor?"
"If you ask me, people like him should be fired immediately!"
Julian knew that no matter what he said or did, no one would believe him in this situation. He cast a cold glance at Jonathan and prepared to leave.
"What? Feeling guilty and trying to run, huh?" Jonathan blocked Julian's way again and turned back to the crowd. "Everyone, let me share a shocking secret with you."
Hearing the words "shocking secret," Julian immediately realized what Jonathan was about to say. His chest tightened with both anxiety and fury. "Jonathan, stop spouting nonsense! You've gone too far!"
Jonathan gave a chilling smile and shouted, "Let me tell you all, this guy is actually an illegitimate child with no father!"
"Huh?" The entire hallway erupted into chaos.
"Who would've thought Dr. Frost is actually an illegitimate child!"
"No wonder his medical skills are so poor, and he even dares to hit Dr. Gray. Turns out he doesn't have a father!"
"Seeing a doctor like him will get us in trouble!"
Everyone turned to look at Julian, their expressions filled with disdain and disbelief.
Julian's face turned ashen. He glared at Jonathan as if trying to tear him apart.
Jonathan wasn't done humiliating him. He stepped forward and slapped Julian hard across the face, sneering, "I'm bullying you. What are you gonna do about it?"
He sneered, "Haha, you almost caused a medical accident. I stepped in and fixed it for you. You should be thanking me!"
Julian was furious, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles cracked.
Jonathan trampled on his dignity in front of so many people. It was unbearable.
But Julian knew that if he retaliated physically, the hospital would fire him on the spot.
Riverheim Hospital was the best hospital in Riverheim. If he got fired, his reputation would be in tatters, and no other hospital would dare hire him.
It all came down to one thing: he lacked wealth and power. Otherwise, how would Jonathan dare to act so arrogantly?
"Mr. Gray, what did you just say?" At that moment, three family members of a patient rushed out of Room 1205 and confronted Jonathan. One of them demanded, "Did you just say Dr. Frost prescribed the wrong medication? Are you saying he gave the wrong medicine to my dad?"
Jonathan loudly responded, "Yes, he gave your dad high-molecular dextran. Luckily, I caught it in time and corrected it."
Lyra chimed in as well, "Yes, I saw it too."
"You f*cking b*stard! I'll kill you!" Simon's children, enraged by what they'd just heard, immediately rushed forward and started hitting Julian. "Now I know why my dad's condition kept getting worse! If anything happens to him, you'll pay with your life!"
Smack! Simon's daughter, a stunningly beautiful woman with a fiery temper, slapped Julian hard across the face.
Julian covered his stinging cheek and backed away, trying to avoid the blows. "You've got it wrong! I didn't prescribe the wrong medication. Someone's framing me!"
"You wrote the medical record yourself, and now you're trying to deny it?" Jonathan shouted, fanning the flames. "Hit him! A quack like him deserves to go to h*ll!"
The night before, Jonathan had knocked Julian unconscious with a cup, cleaned up the broken shards, and staged the scene to make it look like Julian had collapsed from a heart attack. Then, he went to Julian's desk, forged his handwriting with his pen, and altered Simon's medical record, changing the word "low" to "high" to set a double-layered trap.
This morning, when the nurse came to work, she retrieved Simon's medical record from Julian's desk. Following the instructions on the record, she prepared the medication and administered it to Simon.
Simon quickly showed symptoms, and Jonathan, who had been waiting outside the room, pretended to rush in and handle the situation. He added a vascular-clearing medication, then made a big fuss and reported the issue to Samuel, demanding Julian's dismissal.
Bang! Hearing Jonathan's explanation, Simon's son became even angrier and punched Julian square in the face.
Julian couldn't fight back against the patient's family members. He could only raise his hands to block, stumbling backward and nearly falling.
"Mr. Gray, you corrected this b*stard's mistake and saved my dad. Here's 20,000 dollars as a token of our gratitude," said Simon's daughter.
