Chapter 5

Stella Phillips, Simon's eldest daughter, immediately stuffed a wad of bills into Jonathan's pocket. Jonathan accepted it without hesitation, not even bothering to say thank you. "Hurry up! Our dad's not doing well!" Simon's youngest daughter burst out of the room, shouting in panic. "What?" Simon's three family members, Jonathan, and Lyra paled instantly, and they all rushed toward Room 1205. Julian, startled by the commotion, hurried to follow them. Inside the room, the life monitor on Simon's bedside table began beeping urgently. The three lines on the screen fluctuated wildly before slowly flattening out. Soon, the hospital room was crowded with the patient's family members. Jonathan rushed in and immediately noticed the monitor. The three lines were gradually becoming straight, and beads of sweat instantly formed on his forehead. Simon was a billionaire. If he died while under Jonathan's care, the consequences would be unimaginable. Even though his father was the deputy head of the Riverheim Sanitation Department, this wasn't something he could easily cover up. Without wasting a second, Jonathan ordered the nurse to administer adrenaline to Simon and personally grabbed the defibrillator to try to save him. "Dad, are you okay?" Stella, who had slapped Julian earlier, cried out in distress. "Simon!" Simon's wife wailed in despair. As the heart monitor flattened into a straight line, Jonathan, Lyra, and the others looked grim. They sighed deeply and shook their heads. "I'll save him." At that moment, someone called for the hospital's director, Samuel. Samuel was a renowned expert in traditional Chinese medicine and was highly respected in Oceania's TCM community. With decades of experience, he had saved countless lives and earned numerous accolades. He was known for his dedication to his work. That very morning, after hearing Jonathan report that Julian caused a medical accident, Samuel had been prepared to fire him. Samuel stepped forward and asked the other doctors to move aside. From the pocket of his coat, he pulled out a box of silver needles and quickly took out six of them. Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. Samuel pinched the silver needles and skillfully inserted them into Simon's body. It was an acupuncture technique called Six Divine Needles. He was attempting to gather the last trace of life force in Simon's body to bring him back from the brink of death. Unfortunately, Simon lay there motionless, showing no reaction. Samuel sighed and swiftly inserted another six needles, but Simon still didn't move. Spreading his hands, he shook his head helplessly. "We've done everything we could. Prepare for the funeral." With that, he withdrew the needles, having exhausted all options. The sight of the director shaking his head left the room filled with sorrow. A nurse stepped forward to remove the IV from Simon's hand. "Dad, Dad, you can't die!" At that moment, Simon's children threw themselves onto him, crying and shaking his body desperately. The hospital room was filled with heart-wrenching sobs. "It's all his fault!" Jonathan, terrified but desperate to shift the blame, pointed at Julian and shouted, "He prescribed the wrong medication, which caused his death!" "Beat him to death! Make him pay for my dad's life!" Simon's son lunged at Julian in a rage, ready to attack him again. Julian dodged the attack and calmly said, "I'll save him!" As Julian stepped into the room, he glanced at the IV and was immediately alarmed. He quickly pieced together what had caused Simon's sudden deterioration but chose not to say it out loud. Jonathan had added a thrombolytic drug but had forgotten to include a stabilizing agent, causing the blood clot in Simon's leg to travel rapidly to his heart and brain, resulting in a myocardial infarction. In his mind, the medical knowledge he had acquired the previous night from the "Witch Doctors' Medical Classic" quickly provided him with a solution: use the Nine Soul-Snatching Needles combined with the Celestial Essence Technique to dissolve the blood clot and bring Simon back to life. Without hesitation, Julian stepped forward and pressed on Simon's vital acupoint to preserve his last breath. Seeing Julian perform these actions on the deceased, Jonathan became even more furious. "Hey, Julian, you killed him, and what are you trying to do now?" Samuel was furious. He had wanted to fire Julian that morning, but Natalie had insisted on keeping him. And now, this guy was causing trouble again, tarnishing the hospital's reputation. Samuel stormed over, ready to grab Julian. "Don't touch him! You're fired!" Samuel shouted angrily. Julian panicked. If he didn't act now, Simon would be beyond saving. Without hesitation, he forcefully shrugged his shoulder, pushing Samuel backward. Samuel stumbled back into the wall, nearly losing his balance. Julian quickly pulled out a set of newly purchased silver needles from his backpack. Without wasting a second, he swiftly inserted them into six key acupuncture points on Simon's body. His technique was precise, his posture steady, and his force perfectly controlled. This acupuncture technique was called the "Nine Soul-Snatching Needles". Nine silver needles formed a specific pattern, interlocking and connecting seamlessly. Samuel was about to lunge at Julian again, but when his eyes fell on the needle formation, he froze in place. His eyes widened, and his face was filled with astonishment. "This guy is outrageous! He even dared to push Mr. Miller!" someone exclaimed. "The patient's already dead, and he's still needling him. What is he trying to do?" Several medical staff, blocked by the people in front, hadn't seen the full situation and shouted angrily. "Julian, are you out of your mind?" Lyra couldn't hold back any longer and yelled from the back of the crowd. "You're not even a doctor anymore. Now you're just a nurse. Do you even have the qualifications to treat patients?" When did Julian suddenly become so skilled? He'd already been demoted to a nurse and was about to be fired, yet here he was, pretending to save a life. It was absurd. 'Simon is a tycoon. If you fail, his family is gonna wipe you and your family off this planet!' Lyra thought. Jonathan was even angrier. Rolling up his sleeves, he led three or four medical staff toward Julian. "Drag him out of here now!" he ordered. Julian, desperate, shouted at Simon's family, "Stop them! Give me ten minutes, and I'll bring Simon back to life!" Simon's family stood there, stunned, unable to react. Only Simon's beautiful eldest daughter, Stella, stepped forward. She had slapped Julian earlier and was heartbroken, but seeing the confidence in his eyes, his masterful needling technique, and the extraordinary aura he exuded, she felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe a miracle was possible. She stood in front of the charging doctors. "My dad is already dead. It can't get any worse. Give him ten minutes!" she said firmly. "If you couldn't save my dad, let him try!" Her commanding tone and unwavering presence silenced the room. Jonathan and the other doctors stopped in their tracks, momentarily unsure of what to do. "Stella, be reasonable!" Lyra stepped forward, trying to persuade her. "Your dad is gone. Don't let this quack mess around anymore. Let your father rest in peace." Slap! Stella, furious, slapped Lyra hard across the face. "It's all your fault my dad died. I'll hold you accountable!" Lyra covered her stinging face, too shocked and scared to talk back. Jonathan, however, put on a show of grief and shouted, "Call the police! Have Julian arrested and charged!" As he spoke, he pulled out his phone to call security. Several doctors moved to block the door to the ward, determined to prevent Julian from escaping. Outside the ward, the onlookers began to murmur and criticize Julian. No one believed that a mere nurse could bring someone back from the dead. Only Samuel remained silent. He stared intently at Julian's silver needles, his expression shifting as realization dawned. It was the Nine Soul-Snatching Needles. "It's the Nine Soul-Snatching Needles!" Samuel muttered to himself, his voice trembling with excitement, "I'm one hundred percent sure it's the Nine Soul-Snatching Needles!"
