Chapter 2

1160 Words
My alarm goes off the next morning, but I was already awake, tossing and turning all night. I roll over and turn it off. Ok, Hannah, I think to myself. Let's do this. I take a shower, taking a moment to let the water ease my nerves. I dry and curl my hair and let the ringlets hang just below my shoulder blades. Now, makeup. I don't need to overdo it on the first day of school so I just do some light makeup with natural tones and some mascara. The outfit I have picked out is a long silver shirt with a black waist belt and a black pair of skinny jeans. Throw on some black pumps and I'm ready to go. I grab my backpack and head downstairs. Mason is already waiting. "Ready, sis?" "Totally," I lie. "Let's go." Opening the front door, I make my way to his Range Rover parked in front. I get into the passenger side and we take off. "Don't forget to stop at Lex's," I say. "Of course. I wouldn't dream of forgetting your beta." "She's not my beta because I'm not going to be Alpha." He laughs. "Alpha or not, she's still your beta. You guys are inseparable." That's true. Mason and his beta are not even as close as we are. Still, you can't have a beta if you're not an alpha. We stop and pick up Lexi and we head for school. Lex and Mason have a tendency to tease each other a lot. So that's what I get to listen to the whole drive. I've always thought Lex had a little crush on Mason but she'd never admit it. Mason just sees her as another little sister and she knows that. Once in the school parking lot, we all get out and Lex whistles. "Dang girl. You're beautiful." I laugh. "Lex, stop. It's just an outfit. But look at you. That blue dress is killer on you." She giggles. "I know." We hook arms and walk inside. Our lockers are right next to each other so we drop off most of our stuff and get ready to part ways. We kiss cheeks and she heads off to science class and I head to first period English. The first part of class goes by uneventfully. We're given assignments and I get to work on mine. "Hannah Blackwood, please report to the principal's office." I looked up at the loudspeaker, just as murmurs started to fill the classroom. I never got in trouble and I tried to fly under the radar. Well, as much as I could, being the Alpha's daughter. I picked up my things and left the room before I could overhear what people were saying. I wasn't sure why the principal wanted to see me but I wasn't going to make things worse by making him wait. My heart started to race thinking about what I could've possibly done and what my dad would say when I got home later. No doubt he'd know within an hour. Being the Alpha, the school would inform him immediately. They would not want to be on the receiving end of his wrath if they didn't. I got to the office a few minutes later. A smell hit my nose before I was even to the door. It smelled like a lush forest after it rained and it was pure heaven to my nose. I knocked on the door and it opened a second later. "Aw, yes, come in, Hannah," said Mr. Kline, the principal. Mason was there, sitting in front of Mr. Kline's desk with a boy I didn't know. There were roughly 7 other kids off to the side of the room, looking bored. Mason was pissed but holding it in. The other boy was gorgeous. Tall, even sitting down, and muscled. Not body builder status but perfection. Shorter jet black hair that was spiked in the front. He radiated strength and power. An alpha. I met his eyes, those beautiful deep green eyes, and it was like butterflies, and a jolt of electricity all at once. Mate. He c****d his head to the side and started to grin like the cheshire cat. I was surprised and scared and wanted to run away from this situation. But I'm the Alpha's daughter. I was raised better. So I took a step back to brace myself against the wall. It didn't calm me at all but I was at least able to steady myself. "Hannah, this is Liam Knight. He is the Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack." So that's his name. And Alpha to our neighboring pack. I've heard about him. He recently turned 18 and took over his father's pack. Their reputation proceeds them as being ruthless killers if messed with. "He's here to go to school with some members of his pack," Mr. Kline continued. "Their school recently had a fire that destroyed most of the building and it's being rebuilt. I'd like you and Mason to show them around and help them get acclimated." So that's what's going on. As a show of good faith between the packs, the school wants Mason to accommodate the new students. I'm just here to temper Mason and keep the peace. Mason is a strong leader and a fierce protector of his pack, which means he can have a problem playing nice with others. If Mason finds out Liam's my mate, that'll make things alot worse. "Best get started. Have fun and welcome to North Mountain High, Alpha." "Thank you. I'm sure my pack and I will be very welcome here," Liam's says as he looks at me with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. His voice was like silk to my ears and I wanted to badly to ignore the effect it had on me. As Mr. Kline shook hands with Liam, I bolted out the office, and down the hallway. I needed air, stat. As soon as I was alone, I leaned against a locker and took some deep breathes, trying to clear my head. Ok, Hannah. One day. You just need to get through today and then you can avoid Liam for the rest of the year and focus on your studies like you planned. This doesn't change anything. "There you are. We're going to start with the left wing of the school." I looked up at Mason, who had Liam and the rest of the transfer students with him. He looked like he had calmed down some. Liam was smirking at me. One of the other students was standing next to Liam and saw him looking at me. She put her hand on his arm a little too possessively. She was a leggy blonde wearing a pencil skirt and heels as tall as skyscrapers. She was pretty, definitely, but I made a point to ignore her, stood up straight and looked at Mason. "Ok, let's go," I said.
