Chapter 3

I noticed that Liam had removed the girl's hand and started walking next to Mason. I fell to the back of the group and followed along. Mason was talking about different classrooms as we went but I wasn't really paying attention. The entire tour, I kept asking myself how this happened. Why me? I may be Alpha blood but I wasn't in line for the position and I didn't want to be a Luna. I wanted to have a life and explore the world around me. Not be stuck on pack territory, handling wolf politics. I was apparently staring at Liam's back while I was lost in thought because he turned around and caught me staring. He winked at me and was about to say something. Thankfully, the bell rang at that moment and other people flooded the halls. Liam's pack mates dispersed and headed to, I assume, their classes. "Hey, Han. What's up?" I looked to my right to see Lexi coming down the stairs, towards me. We hooked arms and I jumped into conversation, trying to pull her in the opposite direction of Liam. "How was your first class?" "It was ok I guess. You know Mr. Bruner let's you skimp on work the first day. What about you? Wait, are you ok?" She stopped to face me, with a concerned look on her face. "You look really pale, Hannah. Did someone do something?" "Oh no, I'm ok," I said, hoping to sound convincing. "I probably just need to sit for a second. Mason and I just gave a tour to some new students and I didn't eat this morning." "Oh ok well here let's sit on the bench over there for a sec and you can tell me about the students. Where are they from?" We took a few steps and sat on the bench and I relayed what happened this morning, making sure to leave out the fact I found my mate and that mate turned out to be Alpha Liam. "Bloodmoon pack, huh? Was Alpha Liam hot? I've heard he's extra yummy." She wiggled her eyebrows and smiled from ear to ear. My inner wolf wanted to growl at my friend for making comments like that about my mate but I clamped it down tight. "You know full well I don't look at guys like that. I just stayed at the back of the group and wasn't really trying to get a good look Lex." "Really? Weren't looking, huh? That's not what it looked like to me." My eyes grew wide. That amazing smell hit my nose and I didn't need to turn around to know Liam was the one that said that. Lexi immediately bowed her head. I guess she could feel his power, too. He might not be our alpha but you still showed respect in his presence. Being his mate, I guess I just didn't have the instinct to submit to him like everyone else would, though. Still, I didn't move to look at him. I did not want to see those green eyes and risk losing my self control to the effect they'd have on me. "Alpha Liam, can we help you?" Lexi didn't lift her head, thankfully, but I wished she hadn't said anything. Maybe then he'd go away. "Yes, actually. I was wondering if I could borrow your friend for a minute." Lexi glanced at me and look confused at how terrified I probably looked. "I'm sorry, Alpha, but we have to get to class," I said as I got up and dragged Lexi down the hall with me. I still hadn't look at Liam as we left but Lexi kept looking between me and back at him. Honestly, under different circumstances, I wouldn't laughed so hard at her perplexed expression. We made it to our biology class without him following us. As we took our seats in the back of the class, Lexi nudged me. "What the hell was that, Hannah?" "Nothing, he just scares me." "Oh, no, really? I thought there was an entirely different reason you looked like you've seen a ghost." The sarcasm was more than evident. "But why? He's an Alpha, yeah but you're alpha blood, too. There's more to this. Care to explain?" "Really, Lex? You don't remember all those stories we've heard about Bloodmoon since we were kids? They're killers!" I practically yelled that last part of information. The classroom didn't have many students in it but the ones it did have gave me a funny look. Lexi didn't look convinced, though. I couldn't blame her. I was getting too worked up over this conversation. One girl came over and slammed her books down on the desk next to me and she sat down. I vaguely remember her from earlier as one of Liam's pack members. She looked upset. I realized she heard what I said and I instantly felt guilty. Honestly, I didn't think Bloodmoon was so bad. I was just using the hype as an excuse so I didn't have to tell Lexi about Liam and I. God, I'm a horrible person. The bell rang signaling the start of class and I sank down in my seat. I made a mental note to find her later and apologize.
