Two classes later, and it was time for lunch. I didn't have either of those classes with Lexi and I had avoided her in between classes. Now, though, I know she's going to confront me and since it's lunch, I won't have anywhere to run.
We always sit together, usually with Mason and his Beta, Bren. Being alpha blood and company made us an unofficial popular group. Not that we wanted to be and we kept our group small. Girls would always try to sit with us and make a move on Mason or Bren but Lexi and I always made sure they didn't stay long.
Mason and Bren didn't mind the girls but I'm not going to apologise for thinking that none of those skanks were good enough for my brother, his Beta, or our pack. I mean come on, if you're that easy, you're not leader material. What Mason and Bren do, or should I say who, behind closed doors was their business but that didn't mean those girls were going to be long term material. Not that the boys slept around. Actually, I think they had pretty decent taste in girls. While I knew my brother and Bren weren't virgins, they had standards and I was proud of that fact.
Lexi would sometimes let a boy sit with us if he was her current eye candy but it never lasted long. She might act a hopeless flirt on the outside, but I knew how badly she wanted a mate and she was saving herself for him. Me? Mason made it known to every male around that his sister was off limits and as future Alpha, no one was going to get against him. I didn't mind. Boys were not something I cared about. So yes, I was still a virgin, too. Just not for the same reason as Lex.
After I put my books in my locker, I went to the cafeteria. I was not looking forward to the confrontation with Lexi, but I needed to get it over and done with before Mason showed up. That would be so much worse and I could not handle that right now.
Oh God. Forest rain. Right before I had a chance to react, I was yanked sideways into an empty room. Liam shut the door behind me and pinned me to it. Sparks ignited where his hands were touching me and I couldn't help but melt into his touch. It was all I could do not to look him in the eye.
Damn it, since talking to Lexi this morning, I had been so caught up with what I was going to say to her when she finally confronted me. I hadn't even remembered that I was avoiding Liam, too, the reason for that confrontation. Ugh. I was so stupid. I should've stayed home today.
"You know, it was cute at first, you avoiding me. Now, my wolf is starting to get agitated. It's been hours since finding out you were my mate and I haven't even been able to touch you until now."
At that, I looked up at Liam's face. I guess I had expected him to be smiling or something because the fact that he actually looked a little upset shocked me. All his previous cocky alpha demeanor, gone. I dare say he looked vulnerable. I just looked at him, taking in every inch of his face.
"Why do you keep running away? I don't understand. I've waited for you for so long." He brushed some hair out of my face and my wolf was screaming to tell him I'm sorry, I didn't mean to and let's run off together, mate and having pups. That was just the mate bond, I tried to tell myself and keep my self control intact.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breathe to steady myself. When I felt like I could talk and trust what was going to come out of my mouth, I look him in the eye and said, "I don't want a mate. I never did. I have plans, hopes and dreams. Being your mate, I wouldn't be able to do any of them."
"I don't want to take any of that away. I want to be able to give you everything you want and as Alpha, I can."
"No, Alpha-"
"Liam. Call me Liam. Please."
I shook my head, ignoring his request and kept going. "Being your mate would not allow me to go to college. It wouldn't allow me to travel and see the world."
"What?" He looked at me like I grew three heads. "We can talk about all of this later. Just give a chance please? Have lunch with me?"
As much as I wanted to say no, I couldn't. I didn't have any self control left. His scent, his touch and being this close to him for the few minutes I had been had all but worn me down as it was. Seeing the pleading in his eyes was what pushed me over the edge and suddenly, my words weren't my own anymore.
"Ok, I'll have lunch with you."
His face immediately transformed into a megawatt smile that had my heart melting. He looked like he wanted to kiss me but I'm glad he didn't. I wouldn't be able to trust what I'd do if he did.
He moved to open the door that was behind me but I grabbed his arm, more sparks shooting through my body and I almost forgot what I was doing. Damn this mate bond.
"We can't tell anyone we're mates." His smile faded but I kept going. " You can sit at my table with me and I'll tell Mason I was being courteous and offered for you to sit with us or something but we cannot let anyone know we're mates."
"Why? I want everyone to know you're mine."
"One, you don't own me. Two, if you want me to give you a chance, we're going to take this slow."
He grinned again, inches from my face. I guess vulnerable Liam was gone. "I'll take things slow for you but you are mine, Hannah. Soon, everyone will know. You won't be able to keep it a secret for long."
He caressed my face for a few seconds and then, opened the door and walked out. I took a minute to collect myself, trying not to think about how my name sounded heavenly coming from his mouth. Then, I left the classroom and went to lunch.
What have I gotten myself into?
When I got to the cafeteria, I quickly spotted Mason and Bren at our table. As I looked around for Lexi, I got in line to grab some food. I grabbed a cheeseburger and some fries and headed to the table, still not finding her. Weird, she'd usually be in here by now. I sat down and was about to ask Mason if he'd seen her when Liam found us with his lunch.
"Hey," he said and Mason, Bren and I looked up, he had another guy with him and I noticed the rest of his pack members sitting at a table nearby."
"Uh, I asked Liam to sit with us, if that's ok with you guys." Liam looked at me with a knowing smirk and I decided to start eating my burger.
"Hey, yeah, that's cool. I was actually wanting to talk to you, Liam," said Mason, scooting over to make room for the other Alpha. "This is Bren, my beta. I was just telling him about this morning and how you and some of your pack are going to school here now. Bren, this is Alpha Liam from Bloodmoon."
"Thanks," said Liam, sitting at the table with his friend. Liam, of course chose to sit next to me, a little too close. "This is Tyson, my beta." Tyson nodded in greeting.
Mason looked between me and Liam, obviously not knowing what was going on. I quickly decided to distract him and said, "Have you seen Lexi anywhere?"
"Oh, now you want to find me?" She sat down on my other side with her cheeseburger and I realized this was the most uncomfortable situation I've ever been in.
"Wait, what's that smell," Lexi asked as she got this dazed look on her face. She looked around the table and she met Tyson's eyes. He was also dazed.
Oh, no.
