We arrived at the office at 7 in the morning. It was already 8 o’clock but grandpa is not here yet. Maybe he canceled his plans on going here for the inauguration. I grabbed my phone and scrolled through this dating app Amethyst told me about. Some guy with the username “itsyourboyraf”. He’s kinda cute. I tapped the like button on his profile. I hope he messages me.
“Amour.” I was startled a little bit because I was preoccupied.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Do you need something, dad?” I asked my father.
“Our lawyer just called. He said that they will be arriving in five minutes. Fix yourself.” He said.
My heart started pounding hard again. I am so nervous. I don’t know what to do!
“Okay. But why is grandpa going here? Is there something wrong with the comp–” He shushed me even before I could finish my sentence.
“They’re here.”

I can feel that Amour is somehow nervous. Does she know that today’s gonna be her inauguration? I hope not. I am also nervous for her, especially because my papa will be here today. He hates me and my family so much. I hope he doesn’t make Amour do anything humiliating. My phone was ringing, it’s our lawyer.
“Achellous, we will be arriving in five minutes or less. Please be prepared.” He said.
“Can I talk to my dad?” I asked him. He was silent for a few seconds before he talked again.
“He refuses. Your father said that you should wait for him at the office.” He is so annoying.
“Fine.” I hung up.
Amour was scrolling through something. She seemed preoccupied. She flinched when she realized that I was talking to her. I told her to fix herself because the family lawyer would be arriving anytime soon. When she tried to argue back, I shushed her because a car suddenly arrived.
As their car drove to the entrance, I noticed that it wasn’t my father’s car. It was someone else’s. Elani’s car.
I hurried to the entrance to make sure it was my wife. It was her! I was so happy.
“Ela! I missed you!” I hugged her tightly. She hugged me back.
“I missed you too. Where’s Mae?” I pointed towards Amour who was walking out from the elevator.
Elani walked fast towards Amour. Amour realized that it was her mother. Both of them were so happy. They were hugging each other when another car arrived. It was my dad.
As he stepped out of the car, I was feeling more and more nervous. It was almost like I was frozen.
“What a happy family!” He exclaimed when he saw that Ela and Amour were hugging each other. My wife and daughter let go of each other when my father saw them.
“Is this what you do during work hours? Hug each other until both of you suffocate?” He asked.
“Please, papa. Elani just got home from Santa Rosa. She was gone for almost a week. Give them a chance.” I said calmly.
“Oh please, Achellous. Stop with your drama.” I was starting to get annoyed at him. But I needed to keep my composure.
“So, you’ve grown! You’re taller than me now, Mae.” He greeted Amour. I don’t know if he’s being sarcastic or not. But Amour is really taller than him.
“I think it’s the shoes, grandpa.” Amour replies shyly. My father ignores her.
“Don’t wear that again. You look cheap. I mean, you look cheap whatever you wear but this outfit makes you look even cheaper. Pick a better outfit next time.” Amour was shocked about what he just said. I was too.
“Elani! You’re still here? I never thought that Achellous would stay with you this long. I was expecting that he’d start finding someone new when you were too sick to carry another child. Too bad. He’s stuck with you forever.” What the hell did he just say?
Ela and Amour were too stunned to speak. They lowered their heads in shame.
“What the hell, Dos?” I call him Dos when I’m mad at him.
“Chill out, son. I was just telling the truth. You could’ve done better than this.” He started walking away from me.
He continued walking until he reached the conference room– where the inauguration will occur. Our lawyer followed him inside.
“Are you two okay?” I asked my wife and daughter.
“No.” Amour replied coldly. They both walk away from me. They continued to the conference room.
I followed them afterwards. I felt weak. I was so sad for them. My father was extremely rude to both of them. I just want this day to be over.
Inside the conference room was me, my father, Ela, Amour, and our lawyer. The board of directors started arriving at 9 o’clock. After roughly 10 minutes, all of them were here. The inauguration started.
I think Amour still does not know what is happening. I hope she thinks that this is just some kind of special meeting for something else. But knowing her, I think she knows what’s going to happen next. I hope she is ready.
“Greetings, everyone. We’ll make this fast. Today will be the inauguration of Maeve Amour Tala. The daughter of Mahaelani and Achellous Tala.” Our lawyer announced.
Everyone was murmuring. They were also shocked. Amour wasn’t. She knew her fate afterall.
“Isn’t it too early? Achellous is not yet old. Why do we need to transfer the CEO’s position to his daughter? Can’t it wait?” A director asked. Dos laughed.
“Are you stupid? We are going to push the transfer today because we need to prove that this girl is as worthy as the previous CEOs. The inauguration will prove whether a female is fit for this kind of work or not. Do you understand? Or do I need to repeat for you? Pea brain.” Dos said.
Everyone went quiet.
“Let’s start signing the necessary papers.” Dos ordered.
