CEO? (Part 1)

Vea It was yesterday when my mother called me and said that she wouldn’t be home until tomorrow. When I got the news, I was saddened a little bit because I didn’t have anyone to talk to at home. Last night, my father and I were having dinner together at the dining table at our house. We weren’t talking to each other. As in. No word was spoken, no spit was spat. It was total silence. Only the sound of our utensils was heard. He was looking at me once in a while, and it was kind of weird. He doesn’t do that at all. But anyway. I have a huge day today. I will be meeting with our lawyers to talk about some business matters as usual. I picked up my phone and texted my mother. “Good morning, mom. I miss you so much. Be safe. I love you.” I sent the message. I went downstairs and grabbed a cup of coffee. I woke up pretty early. It was just 5 o’clock in the morning when I looked at my phone. I sat in the dining area, and read the newspaper that was from yesterday. The newspaper for today won’t be delivered until 6 am. As I was reading, I heard my father walking downstairs. “Good morning,” he said. He yawned loudly. Both of us were shocked. I looked at him in a weird way, and he did the same. He never greets me at any time of the day, especially in the morning. He looked away and pretended that nothing had happened. He then grabs his cup of coffee. He was looking for something. “Where is the newspaper from yesterday?” He asked. “Oh, here. I was reading it. But you can have it.” I handed it to him. But he refused. “Don’t bother.” He shrugged his shoulders and sipped from his cup. “Okay.” I said quietly. I think he had a good night's sleep last night. He is not mad at me, and he is not grumpy at all. What a weird morning. When I finished my coffee, I got up and put the newspaper back on the table, and then washed my mug. I put it on the drying rack. I went back upstairs again to prepare for the whole day. Aki I woke up to the sound of someone walking downstairs. I think it was Amour. I grabbed my phone from the side table and checked the CCTV. Yep, it was Amour. She woke up early today, huh. Usually, she wakes up at 6 in the morning. She’s an hour early. I think she had a good night’s sleep last night. Before getting up, I texted Elani. “Good morning, my everything. I hope you’ve slept well. I miss you, and I love you. See you soon.” I pressed send. I stretched my body and yawned. I wore my robe, and went downstairs. The lights in the dining area are lit. Vea was sitting in the dining area, drinking coffee and reading something. “Good morning.” I greeted her and yawned loudly. What did I just do? I was shocked. We were both shocked. I looked at her in a weird way and she did the same. I looked away, and pretended that nothing had happened. This good parenting thing is pretty new to me. I don’t know how to feel about it. I grabbed my mug and poured some coffee in it. I was looking for the newspaper from yesterday. “Where’s the newspaper from yesterday?” I asked Amour. “Oh, here. I was reading it. But you can have it.” She handed it to me. But I refused, in a nice way. “Don’t bother.” I shrugged my shoulders and sipped from my cup. “Okay.” She said quietly. I did not have a good night’s sleep last night because Ela was not lying next to me. I was worried about her even though I was sure that she was safe. It’s just that I feel so much better whenever we sleep together, at each other’s side. When Amour finished her coffee, she put the newspaper down, got up from her seat and washed her mug. She always does this, even though she’s running late. She went upstairs to prepare for the whole day. My phone was ringing but it was upstairs. I finished my coffee quickly, and also went upstairs. I picked up the call, it was our family lawyer. “Yes, Atty. Cruz? Why are you calling this early in the morning?” I asked. “Good morning, Achellous. I called to inform you that your father will arrive later for the transfer of the position. He also needs to sign the papers needed for the approval of Ms. Mae’s inauguration.” he said. “Is that really necessary? Can he just sign the papers and let his granddaughter live in peace?” I asked him again. My father does not like Amour. When Ela got pregnant, he expected it to be a boy. He was furious when he found out that our child was a girl. He told us that we should try again for a male child, but I refused because Ela was weak and sickly. He was mad at me, and, of course, my wife and daughter. He promised that he would never accept my child as his granddaughter. It was tough for us. “I am sorry, Achellous. But your father insisted on this. And knowing him, I know that you know that he cannot be interfered with. He always gets what he wants because he is Arturo Tala II. Dos will be Dos.” He answered. “I will call him.” I hung up. I was getting irritated at that point. He always wants to mess everything up. Vea I was in my room when I heard that my father was talking to someone. It was our family lawyer. It was unusual because he only talked to him when there is a huge family emergency, or there would be an inauguration for the company. I eavesdropped, and WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?! Me? Inauguration? Are they serious?! And grandpa?! He will be here later! What am I going to do? He hates us, especially me, big time! He wanted a grandson, but my parents gave him and grandma a granddaughter. I don’t know what to do. I can’t grasp all of this news! I was panicking. “Oh my gosh,” I told myself. I hurried to the bathroom and showered. This helped me calm down a little bit. I was thinking about the news non-stop. I don’t know what to do. I think all of this was supposed to be a surprise. Well, I am surprised! Not only surprised, but pressured too! After showering, I picked out an outfit. An outfit that’s not too much. I don’t want to spoil their little surprise for me. I was wearing a silk tank top, and on top of it was a nude-colored coat, partnered with nude-colored pants and shoes. I did light makeup, and fixed my hair. I sprayed my favorite perfume on myself. I grabbed my stuff, and put it inside my white Chanel bag. I ran downstairs. “Kuya!” I called and waved to our driver outside. He saw me and ran towards me. “Good morning, Miss. I was informed a while ago that I wouldn’t be your driver today. I think Sir Achellous will drive for you.” He said. “Huh?!” I cannot comprehend everything that’s happening today. Can this day get any worse? “Oh, your father’s here.” He pointed at my back. “Let’s go, Amour,” Father said. We walked up to his car. He never uses this car! He only uses this for special occasions. Argh! I am annoyed! We got into the car. He’s driving!!!! “Can I drive?” I asked. “No,” he answered. “Why?” I asked again. “Because I said so.” He’s so annoying. “Can I drive?” I asked him. “I said, no.” He replied. “Why?” I pouted. “Because I said so. Are you deaf? Or dumb? Or both?” He answered. He’s getting annoyed. “Okay, fine. Grumpy-head.” I rolled my eyes. It was not a long ride, but it felt like one. Thinking of it, grandpa’s a crowd favorite. People like him because they don’t know what he did to us. I just hope his bad smell won’t stink out. We arrived at the office. No one was there yet. We were the first ones to arrive. I think everyone will just arrive when grandpa arrives.
