After all of the meetings I’ve attended, and all of my check-ups, it was finally time to go home. I packed my things, and prepared everything I needed for my flight. When I arrived at the airport, something was being announced.
“Good day, travelers. Flight ZB2003- Santa Rosa to Santa Corazon has been canceled due to communication errors. The airline is currently trying to fix the issues. We will update after five to ten minutes. Again, for those who just arrived, Flight ZB2003- Santa Rosa to Santa Corazon has been canceled due to communication errors. The airline is currently trying to fix the issues. We will update after five to ten minutes. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.”
I shrugged my shoulders and just waited for the next announcement. I sat at the steel bench near the customer service area. I was about to scroll through the internet when I realized that my phone did not have any reception.
“Damn.” I whispered to myself. I grabbed a book from my bag, and read it.
After seven minutes, the airport speakers were about to announce something again.
“Good day, travelers. Unfortunately, Flight ZB2003- Santa Rosa to Santa Corazon has been canceled due to communication errors. The airline was not able to fix the issues immediately. We will be back after five minutes for the final updates. Again, Flight ZB2003- Santa Rosa to Santa Corazon has been canceled due to communication errors. The airline was not able to fix the issues immediately. We will be back after five minutes for the final updates. Thank you for your understanding.”
I am so damn unlucky. I don’t know where I’ll go if my flight gets rescheduled after more than two days! I also have work to do back in Santa Corazon. Mae does not know this but Aki’s position will be transferred to her. Mae’s gonna be the CEO in three days. I need to go home immediately.
I was panicking a little bit inside. My chest is hurting a little. I quickly grabbed my medicine, and took it up. I can’t die here.
The airport speakers were about to make the final announcements.
“Good day, travelers. Unfortunately, Flight ZB2003- Santa Rosa to Santa Corazon has been canceled. The flight will be moved, and will be rescheduled the day after tomorrow. All passengers of the canceled flight, please proceed to the customer service area for your refunds and rescheduling. Santa Rosa airlines deeply apologize for the inconvenience. Again, Flight ZB2003- Santa Rosa to Santa Corazon has been canceled. Thank you.”
“I should’ve brought my own plane.” I said to myself.
Since I was sitting beside the customer service area, I got in the line first.
“Good day, Ma’am. What can I do for you?” The receptionist asked.
“Good day. I would like to reschedule my flight to Santa Corazon.” I replied.
“May I see your travel documents, ma’am?” She asked politely.
“Here.” I gave her my IDs, passport, and flight ticket.
The receptionist started encoding some stuff on her computer. Her face suddenly looked worried.
“Is there something wrong?” I asked calmly.
“I can’t seem to scan the code on your ticket. I think it’s smudged.” She then handed me my ticket.
“Oh my gosh.” I grabbed the ticket and panicked. I forgot I spilled coffee on some documents this morning. I didn’t expect that my ticket would be damaged.
“I can try it again for you, ma’am.” The receptionist was so patient and kind.
“Yes, please. Thank you.” I was really hoping that it would work this time.
The computer beeped, and the lady smiled at me.
“Yay! Your flight has been rescheduled the day after tomorrow.” She smiled at me.
“Thank God. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to go home at all.” I said.
The receptionist verified my identification again, and was a little bit shocked. I think she realized that I’m Aki’s wife.
“You’re Mrs. Tala?” She whispered.
“Oh, yes.” I replied. She was intimidated.
“Your flight has been canceled, you could’ve easily booked a VIP flight. Why didn’t you do so?” She asked politely.
I chuckled at her question.
“You know, not every rich person on the planet wants to feel like a celebrity. I miss being a normal person sometimes. That’s why.” I smiled at her as she was handing me my documents.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Mahaelani. I’ve heard everything about you and your family. Especially your daughter. She’s so bright. I hope I can be like her someday.”
“Oh it’s a pleasure to meet someone as good as you too! I hope you can visit Santa Corazon.”
Since the line was piling up, I stepped away from the queue. I grabbed my phone and tried to call Achellous.
“Why aren’t you answering?” I told myself as Aki’s phone rang for the tenth time. No, he’s not answering. Maybe he is in the middle of a meeting.
I tried calling Mae too. But just like her father, she’s maybe busy.
Now, I tried calling our driver. I hope he picks up.
“Yes, Ms. Elani?” He answered.
“Hello, Kuya. Can you do me a favor?” I asked.
“Of course, Ma’am. What is it that I can do for you?”
“I can’t contact Achellous. I don’t know if his phone is dead, or if he is in the middle of a meeting. Please tell him that my flight has been canceled, and will not be moved until the day after tomorrow. I can’t contact Mae either. I think she’s busy. You’re the only person I was able to reach.” My phone was going weird. I think it’s because of the weak reception.
“It’s my job to serve the Talas, Ma’am. I will go to the office now. Please take care.--” The line got cut. I hope he was able to hear my orders properly.
For now, I’ll just go back to my friend, and stay with her a little more while. I hope everything gets better.
