I made him circle the trees three times while I waited in our little fort hidden in the twisted branches. I had to make sure no one would be able to hear my plan.
I thought he’d refuse, tell me I was taking too many desperate risks. But it didn’t even take me long to convince him my idea was our best option. Maybe I imagined it, but for a split second, it almost looked like he was excited.
I left our sanctuary first, sneaking the long way through the trees to cut around to Miranda’s house. Two Dome Guard waited out front. They had been ordered not to let me see Mari.
