Chapter Eighteen I went to collect Mari after school. When I hugged her, she clung to me like she hadn’t seen me in days. She didn’t bounce on her toes or chatter as we walked home. I should’ve paid more attention to her mood. But I couldn’t get my mind to stop racing through a hundred unworkable plans. I wasn’t a soldier or a spy or anyone who had any business resisting the Incorporation. Every idea I could come up with became either impossible or deadly within the first two steps of the plan.
