CHAPTER 4

“She is what?!!!” Mr Garson was shocked as his legs suddenly became weak from the news the doctor had passed, he snatched the test results from him as he stared aggressively at the report.

“She is pregnant sir and she needs proper rest, I will prepare some medications for her, I have to take my leave now”the doctor said as he gave Mr Garson a handshake and walked towards the door.

He picked his phone and called Adams.

“Come over before thirty minutes” his voice was shaky and his tone harsh. Adams wondered what had happened, “ I thought Claire said everything was under control, did Liara say anything to him” he thought as prepare to visit the Garsons.

“What did the doctor say?” Mrs Barbara asked him as his emotions were sad. “She isn't dying, is she?”

“I'm sure you want her dead, that won't happen Barbara because she is carrying my grandchild”. Mrs Barbara could not believe her ears as she trembled, that was not her plans, she wanted Liara to marry Adams only because her late mother's will states that “Liara will only receive her properties and company after marriage”

She had expected Adams to divorce her later to marry her daughter, but now, this pregnancy, “what a waste of plan, what was Adams thinking and why didn't he use protection as agreed” she thought.

“We should have the wedding done quickly before the news gets out that my daughter got pregnant outside wedlock” He continued as he faced his surprised and dumbfounded wife.

Still moving to and fro as he thinks, Adams walked into the living room only to see the anxious Mr and Mrs Garson roaming around.

“ Hello Mr. and Mrs. Garson” he moved closer to them and bowed as Mr Garson yelled at him.

“ Why did you get my daughter pregnant?”

“ Who? Pregnant?” Adams was surprised as he had always used protection with Claire and had never touched Liara. He wondered not knowing which other daughter He was talking about.

“Liara’s pregnant, you two should get married as soon as possible” Mr Garson said as he tried to control his anger.

“Liara is pregnant? How is that possible? She is a virgin and I never touched her” Adams felt surprised and heartbroken, trying to comprehend the news they had just passed. Mr. Garson could not believe his ears as he felt disappointed and embarrassed, his legs grew weaker as he grabbed the table beside him. Butterflies filled the belly of Mrs Garson as she thought this was a good opportunity to get back at Liara, “what !!!, an Illegitimate child?” She exclaimed.

“ You better speak the truth” Mr Garson faced Adams as he went up with his wife and Adam's followed hurriedly.

“ Who is the father of your child?Answer me Liara!!!”Mr Garson shouted at the top of his voice as Liara trembled as she tried standing up, she had never seen her father this way, “ and what?, she was pregnant?” Liara held her tummy as she remembered she had met Henry a few weeks ago, she shivered, her dry lips were slightly apart but no word came out as never expected her one night stand would haunt her badly.

“ I can explain, It was a mistake, I caught Adams cheating with Claire and I had some drinks with a stranger and then” she stuttered.

“What the hell is going on in my family?”Mr Garson suddenly held his chest as his wife quickly gave him a cup of water.

“You little brat, so shameless and brazen, you are carrying an Illegitimate child and you have the guts to accuse my daughter falsely?” Mrs Barbara yelled at the still surprised and anxious Liara.

“What will happen to the wedding plans and all the prominent guests coming from all around the world, what a disgrace you’ve brought to the family” she continued as an idea popped into her head and she moved closer to her sad and weak husband.

“Let's get Claire and Adams married, we can't afford to lose face, our family name will be tarnished”

“What are you saying? Stop this nonsense Barbara”

“ We don't have a choice here, I'm sure Adams is willing to marry Claire, isn't that right” she said as she turned to give Adams a fierce look and he nodded in agreement.

“ We will send Liara to Australia tonight and we can have Claire married to Adams to save face, Liara and her illegitimate child can stay in Australia for a while and after things die down she can return”.

“ We can do that” Mr Garson finally agreed after considering the odds

“ I'm going nowhere” Liara screamed

“You have no say in this!!!” Mrs Barbara came closer and grip her hands tightly and whispered into her ears

“Or you go to Jail with your unborn child”.

Liara went blank as she hadn't expected her life to take a drastic turn, her dreams are shattered, how is she to continue her journey with a stranger's baby in a strange land with no support, why is her family members this cruel to her.

Later in the day, she was accompanied by Adams, Claire and Mrs Barbara to the airport.

“I'm sorry all these had to happen, it's all my fault, trust me i really didn't want to deceive you” Adams said feeling guilty and sadness written all over him, she didn't care , it was too late already, her life is shattered and she didn't know how the journey she is about to face would be.

“ I wish you would never come back,” Claire whispered in her ears as she hugged her and smirked.

“Remember to behave” Mrs Barbara said as she patted her back.

Liara watched her ex fiance, stepmom and stepsister walk away, she turned as she held her tummy.

“ You all shattered my life, I promise you all, I will survive and be back for y’all” she walked away.

While Henry made every effort he could to find Liara but he couldn't as she was nowhere to be found, “ Did she really take that night as a mistake?” He felt disappointed.

Few months later Adams got married to Claire and the news spread all over the city as Liara saw the wedding as she held

the newspaper and rubbed her baby bump.
