The loud bell ringing in Catharina’s ears made her sit up in bed, sweating profusely. Such was her life. The bell had been set by the ruling Alpha, Alpha Jake. It was so loud that it usually rings throughout the entire Pack 's territory . He was a very terrible Alpha who made the lives of the Omega’s unfit for them to live. Each Omega had duties they had to get to every morning; therefore, they all have to rise up earlier than usual to tend to their own physical needs. Being an Omega sure sucks, her life was not hers at all. Recalling the sound of the bell, she dashed out of her bunk bed. The bell that had sounded was the wake-up bell for all omegas. In the Kane Blue Blood Pack, the Omega’s discovered in families are allowed to stay until they are able to discern between right and wrong then they are taken to a special omega’s Building. They are forced to stay in that building while serving the Pack. The rule had been in the pack for eras, with no ray of a brighter future for them. They had written a request to Alpha Jake, to refute the order but he had dismissed their petition and had seen it as a form of rebellion of the Omegas against higher authorities. They were all punished and beaten in the Kane Blue blood pack large hall in front of the other members of the pack as a form of entertainment. Kane Blue blood Pack has a very serious and strict caste system to the extent that talking to people of a higher caste could be deadly. This was because Kane Blue blood pack are Werewolves purebloods. Kane blue blood Pack were the downline of the werewolves purebloods which were bitten by a first, second and third generation. Hence they do not want their pack tainted with the existence of too many Omegas. They wanted to be proud of being the true Purebloods. Alpha Jake was doing justice to that, not giving room for any omega to even dream of Self-development. Being an Omega was one thing Catharina absolutely detested, she did not know of other pack rules since they were not allowed to step out of the Pack’s territory. Even the books left in the school library offered no information on how other Packs are ruled. but she knew her pack rules were extreme. The differences in their strength and abilities made them to be divided into Caste groups. All Omegas were forbidden to talk or move near other caste groups. The omegas were seen as the rags of the Kane Blue blood Pack. They had no right in the Pack and they could be killed if they opposed any rules. All Omegas were forbidden to talk or move near any other caste groups. The omegas are regarded as the weakness of the Pack hence they are well hidden away. For an Omega, the Alpha was out of reach to them. Since they were at the bottom of the caste, they were only able to catch a glimpse of the Alpha whenever he walked past. The highest Status an Omega rose to in the pack was that of a s*x maid of the ruling Alpha family. And they were mostly hidden out of sight of the other caste groups, they come in do their work and go back to their base. And only go into the presence of their owners when summoned. Catharina had been born into a family of high profile beta’s and they had sent her to the Omega base immediately after birth, not waiting for her to be weaned as they did not want her to stain their strong bloodline of Beta’s. Her parents due to a defect in her appearance had decided her fate as an Omega, she had been a very tiny baby, and a child they thought could never be strong enough to protect the Pack. They had never even tried to keep in touch with her. It was rumoured that her family of Beta’s were extremely close to Alpha Jake and his family, she just did not know which one. Not that she had any opportunity. Her close friend Alina had nurtured her. Alina was ten years older than she was, Catharina was grateful to Alina for taking over her upkeep, feeding her with whatever provision was shared with her. The Omegas were usually very weak due to their blood system and the work they engaged in on a daily basis, no Omega had come forward to take care of her then, they had all concentrated on their personal troubles as they were not all sure of their lifespan, they were killed at will by the people they work for. Alina had cared for Catharina since she was a child and did not have too much responsibility outside the Omega building which was a bonus for her. She had taken up her feeding, she would go look for any nursing Omega mother to breastfeed her every day till Catharina was strong enough to be fed regular food. Catharina had grown up with Alina by her side, they always protected each other at the building. Catharina quietly came down from her own bed, over to her friend’s bed, they both shared a bunk, climbing up, she nuzzled Alina’s cold face with her hands. Her friend was so cold; the thin shift she wore did nothing to protect her delicate body from the harsh cold. she placed her hands under Alina’s body, she gently lifted her up “Alina” she called softly, touching Alina’s forehead with the back of her hand. It was scorching, Catharina gasped, fear written all over her face. She knew the implication of a sick body to an Omega in the Kane Blue blood Pack. Alina opened her eyes weakly but shut them close. Catharina felt a tear slip past the corner of her eyes. Her friend’s body was so cold, there was no use calling for help, every Omega was at this point scurrying to freshen up and get to their place of assignment as the two of them were supposed to be. They were always so overworked, causing them to have frail bodies. Though they were allowed to go to healthcare centres around the pack, most times they are ignored and left to die as the pack doctors do claim they have more important patients to attend to, yet the pack would not allow Omegas to become doctors as they claim they were too frail to handle such important tasks yet the Omega’s in the Pack did the most horrendous jobs which showed they were strong as well. They might be Omegas but still descendants of the Purebloods werewolves which made them extremely strong as well “Alina “ Catharina called again, resting her small hands-on Alina’s still body, shaking her friend a little Alina opened her eyes slowly, she smiled when her eyes focused on Catharina “Help me up” she said weakly, her voice hoarse, her body quivering in pain. Catharina panicked, helped her take a sitting position. “Alina, you should rest in today. I will replace you at Alpha Kane’s residence. You do not have to worry, I will finish the work before I go to school” She said quickly, trying to make the older woman lie on her back. Alina smiled weakly” You will do no such thing, Alpha Kane will have our heads when he finds out, come on hurry up, we have to be on our way or else you will be late for school” Catharina gave up the fight, she knew Alina was right. Alpha Kane could kill them, he would take it as the deception and he would not listen to any excuse ever. She helped Alina climb down the bed gently, Catharina crumbled up, her tears slipping down, Alina had been the one looking after her, caring for her needs now that she has fallen sick. it was evident her lifespan would not belong anymore. The Kane Blue blood pack does not care for its Omega’s the chances of Catharina getting drugs for her was so slim. Saying goodbyes to each other at the gate of the Omega house, Catharina looked back sadly as she watched Alina limp away, dressed in her and Catharina's warm cotton coat to the Alpha’s mansion, Catharina had made her wear the two thick clothing to help her against the harsh cold. She only hoped Alina would not be required to do any tedious chores. The evil beast called Alpha Kane would be out of his house as he would leave for School, so Alina should be fine till she comes back, Catharina assured herself and began the long trek to the Pack’s only school. It was a huge twist of fate, that the Pack allowed Omegas to attend school. The Omegas were kept in a separate class and were taught by fellow Omega teachers who have managed to show exceptional intellectual capabilities, though they were still hugely limited in their status in the school system, Which was what Catharina was targeting, such teachers were exempted from working as a servant and were treated a little bit humane than the others. She would never be able to allow another to trample her so. She had seen countless bruises and wounds on Alina that made her cry day and night, therefore she had promised herself to study hard as it was her only means of escape. Greeting her fellow Omega’s in the classroom, They replied groggily most of them bored of their lives so early in life. Catharina walked to the front seat, where her desk sat, making herself comfortable, she began piling her books from her school bags The sudden entry of the teacher made them all stand in greeting. Catharina smiled, happy to see the Teacher. The Teacher Raymond, a handsome older Omega in his late thirties came in gently. He had been their grade's only teacher for a while now; he was an excellent and attractive teacher as he was also allowed to teach the other caste groups, because of his intellectual prowess. Though Catharina suspected it was due to his family’s backing. Though Teacher Raymond was an Omega, his family had been reluctant to part with him, most probably as he was a very handsome child hence they had sort approval from the Alpha to keep him in a different house. His case was a one in a million case though. It was very rare. Placing his books on the table, he looked at them with his eyeglasses placed on his nose ridges” We will not be doing much today, as you will know the New Moon Festival is here,” He paused, letting his words sink in. The new moon festival was a festive period where werewolves from various packs come together to find their mate and also make new friends, and also to make new friends and connections. The Alpha’s use this opportunity to strengthen peace treaties with neighbouring packs, only the Omega’s were not included, the omegas were only allowed to be out during the Full moon Festival, which was the night they could change form, during this night their dreams may also chatter during the Full moon, Omega’s older enough were able to smell the scents of their mates and most times, they are usually rejected by the other Caste groups. Only minimal ones were accepted and mostly by werewolves from other Packs. Catharina was not bothered, The new moon festival had nothing to do with them, she only feared for Alina’s health, who will be mightily busy. He continued. “And as the norm, we Omegas are not allowed to leave our homes, so from tomorrow onward there is no school, at least Omega’s are not allowed outside and I implore you all to please listen, I do love my students after all and make sure you all read well as that is the only way you will be able to escape this life of pain and suffering. This year’s rule is different as the Alpha of our Pack and other neighbouring Packs have all agreed to make this festival exceptional. They are all attending in their Physical form. “ “Isn’t that just like ours at first?” Kamil, a withering girl youth asked. Her small face was masked by the big glasses on her face. She was so thin, one could see her bone structure. “Yes, it is. Though I have no reason why it is so. But that is not for us to worry about. Ours is to ensure we do not leave our rooms. Is that understood?” Teacher Raymond emphasized. “But what if we smell our mates?” another gangly boy asked humorously, Joe was the ruddiest of the boys in the Omega seventh grade. Catharina had always suspected he might be a spy on the Omegas. Or he was simply too rebellious to identify with the other able wolves in the Pack. The whole class laughed, each blushing at the idea. Since they all knew it was going to be a strenuous process in their lives. It would take a lot of seduction to make the other party agree, this was the testimonies they had seen from other Omegas in the Kane Blue Blood Pack. Teacher Raymond, his face fully flushed now, pointed his cane at Joe who still had the teasing smile on his face, like he was privy to a secret no one else knew. “That is enough everyone. You all know the rules, you do not need to be reminded. So in anything you do, make sure you keep away from the Alpha during the festival, They often lose control, since they can half-transform while in human form. I repeat stay clear. “He said emphatically Looking at each student as he spoke, seeing they all listened with rapt attention including Joe, the mischievous, “Take my advice, and you will not be sorry” Catharina and the other Omega students all nodded, each imprinting it in their subconscious image to be extra careful of that day as they were not be caught anywhere near the Festival. Anyone caught would be severely punished, Catharina knew the law had been in existence for a very long time now, but it was really unfair to the Omegas as a werewolf. To the Kane Blue Blood pack, Omega’s were definitely not seen as equals. There has to be a way to change this horrendous custom, she huffed. Packing up her school books into her school bag, Catharina not bothering to say goodbye to her schoolmates, rushed out through the passage for the Omega’s, oblivious of Joe’s eyes on her body as she left. She took extra care to dodge all other werewolves of the other caste groups still in the large school compound. They all must have been released from school at the same time. She might be forced to do some errands for them if they saw her walking idly. She stole away to the mansion of Alpha Kane. Since it was an entirely forbidden ground for her, she walked quietly to the servants quarters, finding a group of serving Omega’s gathered together in a group, she joined them immediately. Heaving a sigh of relief. She turned to one of them to ask for Alina. They were not listening to her, they seemed to be discussing a very hot gossip amongst themselves. “Alpha Kane was so angry today, I wondered what was done to provoke him” “Luna was really cross today as well” one gossiped Catharina's heart picked up, panicked, Alpha Kane did not go to school. Alpha Kane was her grade mate though they were in different classes due to the law. According to the gossips they had heard from Alina, He was a really hard person to work for. No wonder she had not heard any form of excessive noise and shouts that follows his arrival whenever he arrives at School. As the only son of the reigning Alpha, a lot of attention was paid to him, but his wicked personality made him have zero friends, even among his fellow caste groups, he walked about with his beta Cade, only. Surely, had he seen Alina? He was one who hated slackness of any kind. Alina was no doubt going to be slow because of her ailment. Frightened, she listened for more “That servant was really unlucky, it was too quick and I am grateful for that, she did not have to suffer at all” Catharina was scared, not able to take it anymore, she threw her school bag on the floor and grabbed the shoulders of one of the servants, turning the startled little woman to face her “What is it? Why did you just grab me like that?” The woman asked crossed, she shook her sweeping brush at Catharina Catharina ignored the woman’s question, her eyes wide in dread, she held the woman’s brush “Who is the servant that was unlucky?, who? Tell me” she asked wildly, fearing the worst. The woman threw her hands away, twirling around to face Catharina in annoyance” Are you not a student? What are you looking for here? You better make good use of the opportunity you have to escape this life of s*****y. Forget that servant who died and…” “She died? “ Catharina interrupted ignoring the woman's annoyed tone. Her heart thumped as she watched the woman’s mouth awaiting the answer she dreaded to hear. No, it could not be Alina, Alina would not leave her alone without saying goodbye, it could not be. Her guardian angel would not leave her so. They had spent so many moons together “Schoolgirl, go back to the building fast before any one of them see you” The woman advised, she was about to drag Catharina out of the mansion when they espied the carriage of Alpha Kane and his beta, Cade coming out of the main house. The Omega’s all scurried out of the way and dispersed to their various stations. Catharina hid behind a wall and watched as Alpha Kane’s carriage moved close, the carriage door was open so Catharina was able to see Alpha Kane clearly, it was her first time seeing him so close. She wondered how someone so beautiful and gorgeous could be so evil and unfeeling; it was always as though he had no conscience. A true beast. When the carriage got to the mansion gates, it stopped to a halt, since it was a very big carriage, Catharina saw that there were lots of people in it, only the Alpha’s family. She gasped when she saw Alpha Kane’s father, Alpha Jake and Luna Laura, Alpha Kane’s parents, They both had sullen faces, but the Omegas knew better, it was all a show. They did not care. Though none of the family members acknowledge her presence behind the wall, she knew they could scent her out, they knew she was there. But she could not move, she was rooted to the spot. The aura of the Alpha family was so strong, all Omega’s wolves were subdued into submission. They could not even move their bodies. This was an act she detested that was perpetrated most often by the Alphas. they no doubt had something they did not want the other werewolf's sentiments on. Though she could not move, Catharina watched as they all came down, Alpha Kane’s beta, and Alpha Jake’s beta both came down also, it was there that Catharina noticed a mat had been attached to the rear end of the Carriage, the carriage had been dragging a body on it. Her blood went chill, sold shivers overtook her body, sweat beads encompassed as she saw the form of the dead body on the mat. The beta’s brought it forward presenting it to the Alpha who snapped his fingers over the body. The betas nodded and took the body out of the mansion, as they were going out, the mat slipped out of the face of the dead corpse. Catharina slumped to the ground, eyes fixed on the mat going further away in the distance, she inhaled bitterly, droplets of tears falling from her face unhindered. She would make him pay. He would say sorry, she would make him worship Alina’s grave even if it was the last thing she did.
