Blaze POV:
That is all he says, and I know I won’t get anything out of him after that. Suddenly, his focus is shifted, I can sense him staring towards the beautiful Fae, Ritz Summers. I think they will end up being mates before next month. She is the only one who can grab his attention or evoke any feelings in him. She is the light in his darkness, the only one who can fill colors in his bleak world.
We supernatural’s find our mates between 18 and 21. It differs a little among different species. Werewolves find their mates at 18. But I am not sure about the Tigers. So, I let him be. We will find out soon, as Fae can sense their mates at 19. Ritz is turning 19 this week. She is studying with a medical team to be a nurse as she is excellent at her healing powers. As a Fae, her understanding of plants is unparalleled. She can bend them to her will. It’s truly mesmerizing and terrifying to watch. He is not going to talk on his own, so I dragged him with me.
“Hi Ritz. How are you?”
“I am good, B & B.” She laughs at her own joke. She gives a shy smile to Blake, who is just staring at her like a statue. I fake a cough to get his attention before Ritz's parents realize what is happening between these two. Her dad Roger and mom Olivia are old-school conservatives, they don’t like different supernaturals intermingling here. According to them, the bloodlines should be kept pure. He even goes further by even looking down on any other Fae who is not of noble blood. He even despises different kinds of Fae. I don’t know what they will do if these two end up being mates. Roger gets our attention by snapping his fingers. He is dressed in a disgusting scowl, making him appear ugly. He has an ugly heart, so having an ugly face suits him.
“Boys, I think today is about spending time with the family. I think you should go and spend your time with your families. Ritz, I would like you to meet Nathan. He came all the way here for you. I think you should show him around.”
I see both Blake and Ritz getting startled. Oh, this is bad. He is trying to set up Ritz with Nathan. This is definitely some power-grabbing tactic of his. I don’t know what Ritz will do; she is not a pushover by any means. We say our goodbyes before Blake tears Nathan apart. The stage should be ready in the central courtyard, and it is almost time for the main event. From a distance, you can hear the laughter and the buzzing of Polaroid cameras.
Most of the students are sitting in the front row dressed in their regalia, while their families are at the back snapping photos. Slowly the ceremony starts, and we take our places. Luke is the valedictorian. He is quick-witted, astute, perceptive, and extremely talented. He is as deadly as he is smart. He is the most knowledgeable among all of us. There is nothing that he doesn’t know. It is very hard to find something that Luke can’t decipher; he is fluent in almost all the languages, including ancient Greek, Gothic, Hebrew, and Old Latin. He has a keen interest in supernatural history and warfare strategies. He says something is missing in our history. I have no clue what that means, but if someone can find the missing piece, then it’s him for sure. I have discussed my plans with him countless times to remove any surprises. We need things to go just as we had planned. I am not overly religious, but I sent a silent prayer to Artemis, the mother of all shifters and goddess of war.
He goes on the stage to start his well-rehearsed speech. He will also point out that a few of us future leaders have decided to spend two years in the wilderness of Sawtooth Mountain Ranges, to sharpen our skills and prepare for our future roles. That is going to be bad. And we all know it.
As soon as Luke is done. I saw a lot of commotion in the back. That went well. We all gave each other a look. Roy links me saying I need to be calm and handle this well. I can sense my father trying to link me.
“Blaze, you and Roy are coming home. It’s time for you to learn the ropes of becoming an Alpha.”
“Alpha with all due respect, I need to train myself first. I am doing this, whether you like it or not.”
He cuts off the link without another word, but I can feel this is not over. All the students disperse and go back to their families. Connor and Stacey nod to me, letting me know they are ready. Connor can charm anyone into doing something he wants. I don't know what he told Seth, but I would definitely like to use that idea. Seth is dumber than Simon, so that's a plus for Connor. Ritz shakes her head, but I know she will be fine by the end of the night. Luke is good, his family is supportive and wants him to explore his personality. They are the most virtuous family among the Vampire kind. Most vampire families have a dark past, but his family is very kind, unlike others. I understand that Vampires have a long life. He is very young according to them, the youngest among his 5 brothers and sisters who are a few decades older than him. So, it will be fine for him. The main issue is Connor’s, Roy’s, and my parents. I walked towards our group with a solemn look. As soon as I reach them, Scarlett grabs my father’s hand, stopping him from going ballistic in public, and nods to him.
“Blaze, we should go somewhere private. We would like to talk to you.”
“Fine, let’s go for dinner. Blake, please join us.”
Nobody was happy. You can clearly see that. But their image is so important that they won’t say anything out in the open. Everybody walks towards the Alpha dining room, meant for high-ranking family members. We take a private room which is reserved for us.
The room is adorned with gold leaf motifs and expensive chandeliers. It is decorated with candles and roses, while the table is set with gold cutlery and the most expensive porcelain dishes. This is so wasteful, an abuse of money to be honest. Who needs all this for a family dinner? I am sure this was Sarah and Scarlett’s idea. They have some hidden agenda. That’s for sure, this does not look like a family dinner table but more like a celebratory party. Well, too bad, too sad for them. I have a hidden agenda of my own this time. We all took our seats. I made Roy, Connor, and Blake sit on either side of me before Sarah could jump in.
The cold entrées are already served, and they look highly expensive. It’s Carabinero king prawns with cold king salmon fillet and gold-infused caviar. Are they serious? They spent so much money and imported all this for one dinner. I give them a look of disappointment. These people have no regard for money. They can feed the whole pack for a few days with the money they have spent on these entrées alone.
“We should probably talk.”
