Chapter 1: Enigma
Karé came to this party to find a lover. It's as clear
as day.
She's wearing a pair of those red heels because she plans to leave an imprint of the soles on someone's back. Her hair is a haphazard halo on her head — a message that she wants someone's hands tangled all up in it by the end of the night. And that dress, God.
Lucian would pay good money to be someone.
"That's Karé," Lucian's friend, Vincent, whispers, as if Lucian wouldn't already know the name of the sexiest woman in the room. "Who invited her? She doesn't usually come to these things."
Lucian didn't know who did the invitation, but he'd also give good money as compensation to the bastard. His eyes follow as she accepts a drink from the bartender, as she plays with the cherry sitting on it. As she bites into it slowly, because she can tell there are eyes on her and she wants to give them a good show.
They were at a London house party hosted by a
young Senator and his friends, boys Lucian went to university with. After Lucian inherited his father's import-export conglomerate, these men had been there to kick off his career, and they were able to do so only because they were of some power. Everybody in this room controlled a part of London.
Every single one of them.
Lucian understands why Karé would choose this
place to come hunting. She wants the crème de la
crème of c***s. She's an elitist that wants to handpick from only the best of men. Lucian feels his lips tug upwards. It's a good thing he's always been the best of the best. "I want her."
"You can't have her," Vincent says immediately, as
if he'd been waiting for this moment to announce his next sentence. "She'll have you."
