Chapter4:under his rules

1062 Words
Vivian’s POV The sound of my alarm pulls me of my sweet sleep. I groan and without opening my eyes, I turn off the alarm. Just ten more minutes. Ten minutes turn to thirty minutes. I storm out of my bed when I realize what time it is. “Oh s**t, I can’t be late on my second day”. My first day at work was already intimidating enough, I can’t be late on my second day. I quickly rush into my small bathroom, brush my teeth and hurriedly take my bath. I dry my body with my old towel and quickly apply my skincare. I dry my hair and fix it into a neat ponytail. I look so tired. I should’ve gone to bed earlier instead of thinking about my ex boyfriend. I immediately push the thoughts aside, I’m going to have a good day at work today. I slip into the gown I had picked the night before and I must say I look like a corporate girly. I put on my not too high heels and quickly grab my bag. I look at the mirror one last time and I must say, I look good. “You got this Vivian” i say taking a really deep breath. I hurry out of my room. “Good morning” I say to my siblings. “Why are you rushing?” Mary asks me. “ I’m late” “Bye. Say hi to mom for me” I say to her as I leave the house. I run to the bus station because I don’t want to miss the last bus. I check my wrist watch and I only have twenty minutes to get to work. I manage to find a seat and I grab my phone scrolling through t****k. I don’t want to open my iMessage so I won’t be going through Jack and I texts again. I can’t afford to be distracted on my second day at work. I need this money. My family needs this money. “I’m going to have a good second day”. I say to myself as I get down from the bus. I quickly stop by at the cafe to get Mr George’s iced latte. I hurry through the entrance, saying hi to the receptionist before getting into the elevator. I press the button for my floor and let out a deep breath. I’m so nervous but I’m trying so hard not to show it. The door slide open and I make way towards Mr George’s office. I knock before entering, he’s not in and I won’t lie, I feel so relieved. The thought of seeing him makes my heart beat really fast. I immediately frown at myself. Not because I like him, but because of what had happened between us. The stranger I had thought I won’t meet again end up becoming my boss. I step out of his office, walking towards mine when I bumped into him. “I’m so sorry sir, I didn’t see you coming”. I say gulping. He looks unshaken in his perfectly tailored black suit, his tie sitting neatly against his white shirt and I must admit, he does look good in suit. He has the same cold and unreadable expression. He doesn’t say a word. So rude, I thought to myself. As I walk towards my desk, he calls out my name. “Miss Cole”. I freeze and slowly turns to face him. His eyes briefly move over me before settling on my face. “My office” he says in a flat voice. He enters into his office and I follow him behind. He walks behind his desk and pick up a file. “I need you to rearrange my schedule for today.” I pull out my notepad containing the schedules. “Yes sir” “Cancel my dinner meeting with the Sandal Groups”. I stop writing. “Sir?” He looks at me “Cancel it” “But sir, the meeting has been scheduled a week ago and the Sandal’s secretary still called yesterday to ask about it.” “So?” I blink trying so hard to hide my annoyance. “I think it’ll be better if we reschedule instead of canceling sir.” His expression darkens “You’ve been here for one day, don’t question my authority”. “Anytime you’re in my office, you follow my rules and do as I ask.” I swallow “Yes sir”. He looks back at the file he’s holding. I write down all the instructions he gives trying so hard to hide my irritation. “Anything else?” “Move my one o’clock meeting to four o’clock”. I write it down. “And also, cancel my two o’clock meeting”. I also write that down, thinking which meeting he’ll like to attend after canceling most. “Also, there’s a board meeting by tomorrow afternoon. I want the documents on my desk by noon today.” I write that down too. “Lastly, contact everyone attending and confirm their attendance.” “You can leave”. He says in a cold voice. Our eyes meet briefly and for a second, something flickers in his eyes. As I walk towards the door, he calls me. “Miss Cole”. I turn towards him “Sir?” “I want you to be available anytime I call you. You can leave.” I nod and leave his office and get to work. I finish sorting the documents and drop them on his desk like he asked. Then I had lunch and before I know it, it’s time to head home. I shut my computer and leave for home. I take the bus and I get home. My mom is sitting in the living room, I say hi to her and she ask about my day. My dad hasn’t been home since the day he took all my savings, he’ll definitely come home when next he needs money. I go inside my room, freshen up and afterwards prepare dinner. After dinner, I go back to my room, prepare my dress for tomorrow, set my alarm and lock my phone. I need to sleep early so I won’t be late tomorrow.
