Chapter1:where it all begins
Vivian’s POV
I do not blink
I keep staring at my tiny space
I sit on my bed staring at a blank space, thinking about my life when a notification come on my phone.
I happily grab my phone hoping to get a notification from the job i apply to, but then it’s Spotify reminding me to subscribe to premium.
I refresh my email again, this should be like the hundredth time I’ll be doing that.
Still not a single email from George’s corporation, maybe they find someone better for the job.
Because to be honest, I didn’t really do well during the interview.
Even though I still wish I can get the job, because it’ll really make things way easier for us. But it’s what it’s.
I’m still thinking about other jobs i can apply to when I heard someone barged in into the house. That’s my dad and I can bet he’s drunk as usual, I’m not surprise though. It’s just so sad.
“Vivian”
my father’s voice thundered from the living room, pulling me out of my thoughts.
His voice is deep and his words blur by alcohol.
I’m not surprise he’s drunk. My father only has two jobs, alcohol and gambling.
The only times he come home, is when he is out of money and he needs to take our money to waste at his pub.
We weren’t always this poor, the situation we are in is only because, he used our house to place a bet, that is how we became homeless and have to rent a small place we can afford.
“Vivian” he call again
I do not answer, then he barge in my room.
“Do you not hear me calling you” he ask in his usual drunk voice
“I was in the toilet so I do not know you were calling” I lied.
I could not help but stare at him.
He looks so tattered, the exact way a homeless person will look.
Dirty, untidy hair, bottle in his hand.
My dad used to be a neat freak, clean haircut, clean shave and he loved suits so much.
Everything changed when he lost his job. He got into uncountable debts and drink alcohol everyday.
“Give me some money” he says bringing me back from my thoughts again.
“I do not have any money dad” I say to him, hoping he does not know about the money I’m keeping in my piggy bank.
I have been saving that money for a while, and it’s meant for my twins siblings.
“Are you lying to me right now?” He asks.
“No dad, I honestly do not have any money”. I could not look at him, I’m really bad at lying and I hope he has not find out I’m lying to him.
He pushed me aside, grab my purse from the bed and poured out the whole content.
There is not a single cent in the bag. Thinking he will leave my room now, but no, he open my wardrobe and brings out my piggy bank.
“Dad please no do not take the money, it is for Mary and Maria tuition”. I say to him.
“How dare you lie to me about not having any money”. He says to me, taking out every single note.
“If you dare lie to me again, I’ll kill you”.
He takes all the money and leave my room. I sit all my bed crying, I do not have a job and the little money I have manage to save, he has taken everything.
“I can not stay at this house tonight” I change my dress and go to my boyfriend’s place.
“Why is Jack not picking his calls”. I say to myself as I walk to his place.
“I should have just stay back home” I mumble to myself as I get to my boyfriend’s place, expecting to rant to him, only to see him and my best friend kissing.
“Vivian” he calls as our eyes meet.
“It is not what it looks like I promise”. He says walking towards me.
I do not say a word as I walk out of his room feeling so betrayed.
“I can not believe he will waste our four years relationship and cheat on me with my best friend”. I say to myself, holding back my tears.
I keep walking without knowing where to go.
“I do not want to go home, I can not face mom right now”. Then I walk into a bar and sit across the bartender.
“What can I get you?” he asks in a calm voice
“Something really strong”
“Something strong, okay girl, coming right up”.
I have not taken alcohol before but tonight, I’m done being the good girl.
My phone beep, it is a text from Jack.
“Vivian I’m so sorry, please let me explain, I’m outside your place, your siblings say you are not home. It is not what it looks like, please pick my call”.
“This is your strong drink girl”
“Thank you, I take a sip and I must say, alcohol do not taste nice so why do people take it so much”.
I look around the room, shaking my head to the loud music, when my eyes meet a man sitting across the room.
For a moment, I forget what make me sit here in a bar.
He is staring directly at me, not in the way most men do when they are trying to get a girl’s attention. His gaze is calm, almost unreadable but I can feel it lingering on me. I couldn’t help but stare back at him too.
I quickly look away, taking another sip from my drink. My phone buzz again
“I swear if it’s Jack, I’m going to block him”.
It is not Jack, it is a text from George’s corporation.
“Dear Vivian Cole,
We’re happy to inform you that, you’re now our new employee, please report on Monday.”
“Omg I can’t believe this, please give me another drink, I’m celebrating”.
I say to the bartender.
“Take it easy or you’ll get yourself drunk”
I turn my head, and the man across the room is now standing beside me, and I must say, up close he looks intimidating and I must say, the man is so fine. His green eyes is definitely the cutest part about him. His voice is deep, slightly rough and calm enough to makes me forget the loud music surrounding us.
“Are you always this nosy?”
The corner of his mouth lifts.
“Only when someone’s staring at me”
“I wasn’t staring”
“No?”
“No”
He smirks and takes a slow sip from his drink.
“I guess I’m the one staring then”
He sits beside me, sipping from his drink without taking his eyes off him.
“Wanna dance?”
“I’m not a good dancer”.
“Neither am I”. He says.
He pull me up and we move to the music, our eyes locking and he leans in to kiss me. At first i pull back but thinking about the betrayal and the fact that I just get a new job, I kiss him back and I must say, he kisses damn well.
“Wanna get out of here?” He asks
“Yes”
We leave the bar and I follow him like puppy.
I can’t believe I’ll blindly follow a stranger.
Whst if he kidnaps me?
What if he’s a serial killer?
We arrive at a hotel and he seems like a regular here.
We enter his hotel room and he pulls me in for another kiss and maybe this is what I need at the moment, a s****l moment with someone i don’t know his name and will definitely won’t meet again.
