12 Eli readily agreed that he should avoid returning home, at least until the perpetrators were found. However, the police apparently would be giving the incident about the same priority as a bicycle theft. Eli might as well count on being homeless for the duration of the inquest. Bones lived in a one-bedroom bungalow behind the funeral parlor. The original plan was for Eli to take the couch in the living room. But midway through that first night, Eli’s thunderous snoring got him evicted. A groggy Bones led Eli next door and into a first-floor room.
