Chapter 1, First Impressions
3rd PoV
A woman sat on a train, watching the sunny fields outside turn into the pitch darkness of a tunnel, her blazing red orange hair done in a loose braid. Her nearly black eyes flicked around studying her surroundings as the train came to a stop. Her eyes moved to the window and she sighed as she stood.
Her body adjusted as she stood, her uniform a dark green with a silver lining her pockets and edge lining in her clothes as she stepped off the train. Her heeled combat boots hitting the platform, as she looked around the insignia of her previous school was bright on her lapel as she looked around the train platform.
“Romeo! Leave me alone!” A loud screech echoed to her right as her head snapped in the direction, she made her way towards the sounds, her dark eyes deep and curious about the noises.
As she got to the end of the platform, she was stopped short by a young woman in a veil trying to get onto the platform and the siren went off. The woman arched a brow as the young woman looked up, eyes widened as her eyes landed on the redish orange haired woman.
“Give me that anomaly Fuji! Quit being a bb and give it to me!” A deeper voice sneered as the woman watched a man step towards the veiled woman and try to remove the veil, but what no one was expecting was the veil to lash out with tendrils of its fabric.
“What is going on here?” The woman finally said, her accent thick but easily understandable, but no one answered as Romeo had glared at the veiled woman.
“Did… You just attack me?.” He snarled but he couldn’t get any further as the redish orange haired woman stepped in the way, her nearly black eyes stared straight at Romeo.
“Don’t you know it’s rude to attack a woman, anomaly attached or not, show some respect.” The woman chastised, her voice calm but a hint of anger could be detected as Romeo recoiled suddenly, staring at the stranger.
“Move, you bb or I will move you.” He threatened pulling a rifle out, the woman arched her brow unmoving as she stared at him.
“Do it. See how far you get.” She challenged, she glanced over seeing a dark haired man and a blonde. Her eyes studied them as she glanced over her shoulder, hearing the sniper click, a loud noise of the gunshot went off, before the woman could react, someone was already in front of her.
“Iggnaim.”
The woman looked up to see the dark haired man, blocking them protecting them from the bullet.
“Come on, let’s go back to the academy so we can find out more about that veil.” The man said, grabbing the veiled woman by the wrist, gently the veil didn’t move and the man looked towards the blazen haired woman.
“Who are you?” He asked looking the woman up and down, she smirked and hummed softly.
“Rosaleen Dervila.” Was all she answered, he nodded and motioned for the blonde to follow.
“I am Lucas Errant, that guy over there, the blonde his name is-.” Before Lucas could say his name the blonde was next to Rosaleen, trying to act smooth.
“I am Kaito Fuji, let’s get out of here now I don’t want absolute beauty like you fighting the likes of him.” He basically cried, Rosaleen grimaced slightly but her face soon went deadpan and smiled softly understanding he was complimenting her.
They walked away, quickly Lucas leading the veiled woman through the front door. Rosaleen followed suit, as Lucas and Kaito looked around making sure it was clear, turning to the veiled woman now.
“You have an anomaly attached to your head?!” Kaito basically screamed when they got inside and the veiled woman sighed.
“I didn’t know it was an anomaly, I found it in that closet I just wanted to go home.” She explained and Rosaleen arched a brow as she watched the interaction.
“Okay, well let’s get that veil off then, take it off.” Lucas said and the veiled woman hesitated before nodding and going to reach up to take it off, but it wouldn’t budge.
“I… I can’t get it off…” She said slightly panicked, Rosaleen frowned concerned as she stepped forward to help but Lucas stopped her and calmed down the veiled woman.
“Well… It moved when we were adjusting it, maybe if we take it off it might come off?” Lucas thought out loud and the veiled woman froze in thought, nodding furiously she motioned to allow them to do so.
Lucas reached over and slowly lifted the veil, trying not to pull the woman's hair as he lifted the veil. Just like that the veil lifted off her head Rosaleen relaxed and stepped back as she hummed softly, Kaito was watching the two his eyes moving to Rosaleen as well as she crossed her arms and in a way leaned back.
The woman had medium brown hair, and chocolate brown doe eyes. She was quite beautiful as the veil was lifted.
The woman’s brown eyes flicked around anxiously as her gaze settled on something behind Kaito and her face paled slightly, Rosaleen frowned and followed her gaze to the poster on the bulletin.
“You’re wanted by the academy?” Rosaleen asked, her voice confused as her eyes moved back to the woman.
“It’s nothing bad… I was just cursed by an anomaly, I was brought here against my will essentially, I want to go home.” She said, trying to justify her actions. Lucas frowned as he looked at the woman.
“The academy can help you, if you’re cursed then they are your best option.” He commented and the woman flinched slightly
“I… I’m so sorry Kaito… I didn’t want to lie to you.” She whimpered slightly and her eyes flicked to Rosaleen who was watching with a neutral expression on her features, her freckles more noticeable in the darker environment.
A bright flash surprised them all when the veil changed into a ring and was found back on the finger of the woman, Rosaleen’s eyes narrowed in slight confusion as she studied the situation.
“Where is my anomaly!” A loud voice said as they busted into the front door, it was Romeo again.
“It’s not the veil anymore! It’s a ring, leave the woman alone.” Rosaleen snapped and Romeo’s attention snapped to her, glaring at her but Rosaleen didn’t flinch. Instead she returned her own heated glare, making the atmosphere feel like it was crackling.
"Well I am getting my reward for that anomaly, girl dead or alive.” He stated as he raised his weapon, Lucas stepped in front as the shot went off again the noise bouncing off the enclosed walls.
“Iggnaim.”
A wave of energy flowed out this time, Rosaleen’s eyes widened when she looked up as there was a huge creature blocking the shot as it snarled. The noise echoed as it drowned out Kaito’s girlish scream.
Rosaleen, entirely unaffected by the situation, stared in wonder as she watched the situation play out. Lucas stepped away from the woman, Rosaleen had not seen anything like this happen before herself.
“What… Did you just do..?” Lucas asked, staring at the woman, his hand no longer on her wrist as he stared at her.
“Stoooop!” A voice called out as they approached.
“Look what you’ve done to the campus!!” He whined unhappily looking around, he was dressed in half light blue half dark blue. A short hat on his head as he looked over the group.
Rosaleen looked around, realizing there was purple soot-like substance everywhere.
“I am not a part of this!!” Kaito said, darting out of the room as fast as he could, his footsteps echoing as he left.
“Fuji! Don’t you dare-” Romeo called but was cut short.
“Mr. Lucci! I have a bone to pick with you over this and over your captain’s recent behavior! Come to my office later!” The man said his icy blue eyes narrowed on Romeo.
"Tch.” Was Romeo’s only response rolling his eyes, looking away angrily.
“And Cara…” The man said, turning to the girl and Rosaleen spectated, eyes curious as she watched, head to the side like a curious bird as she listened to everything, not making a peep.
“Yes…” Cara squeaked softly. The man looked her up and down quietly, his eyes unreadable.
“Honestly! We’ve been looking all over for you! You can’t just run off like that, you know!” He said, worry evident in his voice as he watched her.
“I-Im sorry…” She said looking down, her eyes not meeting his as Rosaleen pitied her slightly as she leaned back.
“I have something important to discuss with you. Follow me back to my office, please!” The man said and turned but stopped short, his eyes moving to Rosaleen. Eyes widened happily as he smiled at her slightly.
“Hello Ms. Dervila, welcome to Darkwick, if you’d like stick with Mr. Errant.” The man said and it clicked, this was the Chancellor.
“Understood.” Rosaleen nodded softly, her nearly black eyes sparkled slightly in amusement, her eyes moving to Lucas who was silent and still had an unreadable emotion in his eyes.
