Kelly-Grace is one of the last surviving members of her pack when she is sent to live with her mother's sister. An aunt whom she has never met and who would have quite liked to keep it that way.

This is about Kelly discovering who she is, where she comes from, and building a life she is proud of when everyone around her seems intent on knocking her down.

My name is Kelly-Grace Mortan, and this is my story. I was born to James and Lilly Mortan of Emerald Valley and was the youngest of 3 pups. Daddy is one of the top wa*riors of our pack, and Mama works in the hospital with babies. My brother Mark, or Marky as I always call him, is 13, and he got his wolf, Lobo, when he turned 11 and they both want to become a wa*rior like Daddy and have been training every day since Lobo came to be just like Daddy. My sister, Cecelia, or Sissy to me and only me, just turned 11. She hasn't shifted into her wolf yet, but she said she speaks to her all the time, and her name is Sage. I bet she is the most beautiful wolf when she shifts, just like Mama. I hope I get to shift soon, too, but Daddy says you need to be at least 11 before you can; otherwise, our bodies aren't strong enough, and it can be really dangerous. But days ago, my pack was attacked. I think that it was rogues, as my sister said the word rogues when she hid me under the floorboards. I haven't gotten my wolf yet, and so wasn't able to scent out a rogue from any other person I came across. A whole day and night passed before the silence under the floors became too much. But when I came out, all I saw was blood. In the middle of our living room, I found Mama. There was red all around her, and she felt cold. But I didn't want to see more blood, so I laid down next to her and grabbed her arm and wrapped it around me. Mama's arms were always the safest. Daddy's too, but he wasn't here. I don't think Daddy was able to protect Mama. I squeezed my eyes closed and tried to give some of my warmth to my Mama so she could wake up. There was pain in my chest, but Mama didn't move. Soon, I felt my body get heavy, and I slept. I slept and slept and slept. I slept so long that the people who came and found me thought I was dead. When they found my heartbeat, they rushed me to a doctor to make me wake up. They said a long time passed when I finally woke up and they think I slept so long because my little heart broke knowing my family were gone. They said, even though I wasn't old enough to have my wolf and so feel the bond all pack members do, I still had a strong connection to my pack and family, and that's why their deaths had such a big impact on my body. I didn't tell them, but I think it was because I tried to give Mama my warmth. That I tried to wake her up. I nearly made myself not wake up. When the doctor said I was all healthy and ready to leave the hospital, I learnt that 9 other children had survived the attack on our pack. But that was all. I remember Daddy saying once that we had hundreds of wolves in our pack - how can only 10 survive? I guess their families had hidey holes like my family did. All the adults of the pack that found me talked and talked about what needed to happen to me and the other kids. They talked about other family; other packs that might take in the orphan's if there was no family; or if there were people in their pack who could take us on. This pack was called Silverstream Pack which one of the nurses said was because of a stream that wound all through the pack and when the moon hit it just right, the whole thing glowed silver. She said it was like the Goddess' hair wound through their pack blessing each and every one of their members. I thought I would like to see that. It sounded so beautiful. A really big man came to talk to me one day. I was still in the hospital even though the doctor said I was all healthy because the had no where for me to go. I couldn't go home. I no longer had a Mama or a Daddy. I didn't even have Sissy or Marky. The big man was so huge he looked like he could eat me for dinner and still be hungry. But his eyes were brown and kind. He said that he was the Alpha of Silverstream and that he and his pack had been working hard to find extended families for all the kids from my pack. He said he had found my Mama's sister who lived in a pack far enough away I would need to get on a plane and fly through the clouds to get to her. He said her pack was called Mountainside and had thick lush forests all around and was a really nice pack for me to go and grow up in with family. I didn't know my Mama had a sister. I only knew my uncles and Ma and Pa but they lived in the pack with us. I didn't know where they were now though. I stared at my hands that were in my lap for a long, long moment. He told me that I could meet her on a video call. I never used a video call before, Mama and Daddy said that people who used them were lazy and couldn't be bothered to write a letter. But I nodded and held out my hands. A lady who stood behind the big Alpha handed me a weird small tv. A face stared at me. I could see her nose and eyes and hair, but the rest was fuzzy. She had Mama's nose. She had Mama's blue eyes too. But her hair was dark like chocolate, not blonde like my Mama's. She looked friendly enough and she started to talk. She said her name was Aunt Charlotte and that she was Mama's younger sister. She said that she was so sad to hear about what happened and that she wished she could hug me. She said I was more than welcome in her pack and in her home. She told me about my cousins who were excited to meet me and how they had already started decorating a room in their house for me. She told me she was their packs Beta's mate and had lost touch with my Mama after they both found their mates. She also talked about how my Daddy wasn't really the type of wolf my Mama should have bonded with and how her parents had been angry with Mama for bonding Daddy. I didn't understand. My Mama and Daddy were so happy. They danced around the living room every night and teased Marky when he told them they were gross when they kissed. On Sundays, Mama always made Daddy his favorite waffles and on Tuesday's when Daddy had to go out of the pack, he always brought Mama these humongous flowers. Why would Mama's parents be angry about Daddy? So, I just held the little screen and nodded. I had nowhere else to go. So, it was decided I would go to Mountainside pack. To my aunt.
