“I need to make a call,” Evan tells Rene.
He uses the room phone to call Sue and let her in on the drama, explain the police and noise, and ask her to take care of Marshmallow Fluffy Butt, telling her to call if the police at his place give her trouble. She keeps him on the phone while she goes next door, and Evan does have to speak to an officer, but eventually they let her take Marshmallow into her apartment, where Evan knows he’ll be safe and spoiled.
When Evan puts the phone down, Rene still looks thoughtful, and Evan takes his hand again.
“Are you okay?” Evan asks.
“I don’t want you to be in danger. Maybe you should go into hiding until this case goes to court?” Rene suggests.
