So much to be done but, as yet, no real idea what direction his portrait of Amadoro would take.
His eyes dropped to the double rows of pages listing all the known facts and paused at the final two. FRIENDS and ENEMIES. Did Amadoro have any real friends in New York? Who were her enemies?
He reread each page, starting with CHILDHOOD.
Under SECOND MARRIAGE he wrote:
Did she murder Craydon?
Or did Marnat say this to get ten thousand dollars?
Under ENEMIES he wrote one name:
