📖Chapter 21: The Fire That Echoes

426 Words
“Every flame remembers where it came from — and what it was meant to become.” The ruins of Emberreach still smoldered. Kaira stood at the edge of the scorched cliff, her flame-wolf pendant warm against her skin. Ash coated the wind, whispering of the Hollow retreat — but also… their return. “It’s not over,” she said. Riven stepped beside her, arms crossed. “Not even close.” Since the day they destroyed the Hollow Gate, Emberreach had been on edge. The fire inside Kaira hadn’t calmed — in fact, it felt like it was growing. Changing. Whispering things she couldn’t fully understand. --- 🔥 A New Arrival Ashen interrupted their silence, walking with purpose. “We’ve got a visitor,” he said, “From across the stars, Claims he’s from Earth.” Kaira froze. Riven’s hand twitched instinctively toward his blade. “He’s alone,” Ashen added. “But not unarmed.” They followed him to the war tent — and there, standing tall in a dark travel cloak, was a stranger with piercing sea-glass eyes and sun-touched skin. “Kaira Ember,” he said. “You don’t know me, but I’ve been looking for you my entire life.” She stared at him, her pulse thudding. "Who are you?” He pulled back his hood. “Theo Malric. Born on Earth. Raised by those who know your name.” --- 🌑 Echoes in Her Blood That night, Kaira’s dreams burned. She stood in a silver forest lit by twin moons. Her mother, Liora, stood in the center — translucent, shimmering like starlight. “Kaira,” she whispered. “They’ve found you.” “Who?” “The ones who know your fire don’t come from Lunaris alone.” Kaira reached out — but the vision was blurred, fractured by golden symbols and blood-red stars. “Follow the Echo Code. Trust the howl.” Then her mother’s voice changed — deeper, distorted: “Or be devoured by what you were never meant to remember.” Kaira jolted awake. And the pendant around her neck was glowing. --- 💫 Ending Teaser She rushed to the map table at dawn, slamming the glowing pendant down. “There’s something hidden. Something she left behind.” Ashen raised an eyebrow. Riven’s expression darkened. And Theo? He smirked like he already knew. “Then it’s time we go find it,” he said. “Because you’re not just a Flamekeeper anymore, Kaira. You’re a starborn key.” And far beyond the moons… something had begun to stir.
