Blurb

Her boyfriend slept with her sister. Her family turned their back on her. And her mother's company, which she had been fighting for, was slipping out of her hands. Just when Alina thought her life couldn't flip further, she discovered that she is the sole hier of the most powerful crime organization of America.

Now she has money, power and an entire empire to rule. But there is one problem. To inherit the empire, she had to marry the heir of the rival gang.

Roman Carusso. Cold. Ruthless. And dangerously obsessed with her.

It was only supposed to be an arranged marriage, a business transaction without any emotions. But the deeper she gets into the life she was born to inherit, the harder it becomes to resist him.

And she has no idea which will be harder: becoming a Mafia princess, or falling for the man she was never supposed to associate with.

The Company, The Boyfriend, The Company
Alina’s POV “You can’t be serious! He can’t do this to me.” “I am sorry, Miss Whitmore, but I saw the inheritance papers with my own eyes, and he is naming your step-sister as the future heir of AV Enterprises.” The employee spoke with such certainty that I couldn’t contest further. To be honest, I wasn’t surprised. After my mother’s death, my father remarried within a year and has been devoted to his new family since then. Even though I am his eldest daughter, he never treated me equally to my step-sister. I never spoke against the times he would give her my stuff just because she wanted it, or how he would punish me for something I did not even do, just to protect her. But I can’t be silent this time; it was my mother’s company that she built from scratch. It was the only thing she left behind for me. How could he just give it away to someone else? I left the company early and boarded the cab back home. After my mother's death, my only goal in my life was to take over AV and elevate it to new heights, just as she envisioned, and I have been working hard for that goal since I could barely understand the nuances of running a business. I pursued my major in economics and worked at AV for two years before finishing my MBA. I rejoined right after I finished business school two months ago because I did not want to waste time. I worked hard for so many years, equipped myself with all these skills, only for my father to give everything away to my sister, who I can say for sure doesn't even know what AV stands for. I paid the cab fare and walked inside the lifeless house. I was drained yet restless; all I could think of was freshening up and waiting for my dad to get back home, so that I could talk to him. I made my way upstairs. The corridor felt longer than usual as I walked toward my room. I had almost reached my door when a soft, unmistakable sound drifted from the slightly ajar room beside mine. “Oh, baby… yess! Just like that.” Lila moaned, tightening my grip around my bag. I stood there stunned for a second before forcing myself to keep moving. Whatever she did was none of my business; it has never been. I was about to push my door open when her voice cut through the silence, almost breathless, “Say it, Ethan. Say that I am better than Alina.” I froze on my steps. Before I could process what she had just said, I heard a familiar voice reply, “You are the best, Lila. Alina could never compare to you.” I stared blankly at my sister's door and mindlessly walked towards it. My hands moved on their own, and the door creaked open under my push, only for me to be greeted by the sight of Lila entangled in the sheets with my boyfriend. My breath caught somewhere between my chest and my throat, refusing to come out as I stood there, frozen at the doorway. At last, I finally managed to utter, “Ethan… What are you doing?” Ethan flinched at the sound of my voice, his expression shifting from shock to something almost desperate as he scrambled to pull away. “Alina, wait! This isn’t what it looks like,” he started, his words tripping over each other as he reached for me. Compared to him, Lila was extremely calm. She said, “It’s okay, Ethan. She was supposed to find out sooner or later.” I looked at Lia and then at him, feeling nothing but disgust. I only had one question for him, “How long has this been going on?” Ethan ran a hand through his hair and looked away, “Alina… please. Can we not do this right now?” My chest tightened as I asserted, “Answer me!” Lila let out a soft laugh from the bed, completely relaxed despite the chaos around her, “You always do that, Ethan. You drag things out instead of being honest.” “Lila,” he warned, “Not now.” She rolled her eyes and sat up straight, clinging to the blanket to cover her body. Looking straight at me, she said in all seriousness, “Three months, if you really want to know.” I felt my knees weaken slightly. This has been going on for three months, and I had no idea about it. I felt my throat tighten, not because I was devastated but rather repulsed. Looking at the two of them, a man who shamelessly cheated and a woman who is smirking as if stealing someone's boyfriend was an achievement, all I could think was how pathetic this situation is. “You sicken me.” I muttered to Ethan and turned to walk towards the door. Ethan stepped forward quickly, grabbing my hand, “Alina, stop making this bigger than it already is.” “Bigger?” I pulled away, “You have been f*****g my sister behind my back while I was working for our future.” “Oh, please…” Lila scoffed, “Stop acting like you were doing all of that for some fairy-tale future with him. You were working for yourself, Alina. You always have been.” I threw a glance at her and decided to ignore her mindless banter. I was about to leave when Ethan spoke up, “Alina, I am sorry. At least let me explain!” His words made me stop in my tracks, I looked at him and crossed my arms, “Okay. Go on.” The man opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but nothing came out. I scoffed, “You are pathetic.” “Ethan, you don't have to explain anything to her.” Lila spoke up from the bed, “Since you want to hear it, let me tell you the truth. You had your head so much up your workaholic ass that you bored the f**k out of his mind. He had to turn to me to find a little bit of excitement in his life.” Beside her, Ethan’s expression shifted immediately, “Lila, enough.” “No, let her hear it.” She looked at me with cruel amusement and continued, “You think the world owes you something just because your mother died. But guess what, no one gives a fuck.” “Lila,” I interrupted her, “I have seen how low you can stoop for attention but please don't use my mother for it.” “You!” The smile on her face faltered and was replaced by anger, “Don't act all high and mighty! You and your mother are not saints. Do you think I don't know about your slutty mother who trapped my father into marriage just because he was rich.” The slap escaped from my hand, causing the whole room to fall silent with a resounding ring. Ethan caught Lila, and they both looked at me in horror as I said, “I warned you once already. Don't talk about my mother like that."
