CHAPTER 64

CHAPTER 64 NOVA'S POV It is hard sleeping when it feels like you're being chased in your dreams. Every f*****g time I try to close my eyes, I can see her there. All chained up. Barely able to move. And I can't help but feel guilty. Like I'm at fault somehow. The tears that are falling down her face are my fault, but I can't prove it. I toss on the bed one more time, clutching to the pillows. I have to sleep somehow. It is only going to be a while until I have eyebags and dark circles. I slowly close my eyes, and I can see the chains again. I can hear screaming. And then, there are glowing eyes. Her eyes. Cassian's emotions shoot through the bond like a knife. He is angry and repressive. I can't help but imagine that it is because of what one of the pack members said about me. That is the only thing that has managed to get him angry in the past few days. Underneath all that anger, I can feel something else. His softness. His fear. His fear is making me feel unstable, and I clutch to the sheets for stability as my teeth grit on their own accord. His anger makes my blood hot. And his desire? f**k me. I slip out of my bed, putting on the satin robe that is lying on the chair. I quickly head out, with my flip-flops on my feet. The moon is bright above my head, and I don't even think twice as I push the door to Cassian's office open. He is there. I can f*****g feel him. He is awake. Of course, he is. He looks at me from head to toe, licking his lips as he swallows so hard that his neck flexes. My fingers dig into the hem of my dress. It is hard to keep myself together. Not when he is looking at me like that. I am the first one to speak as I slowly shut the door behind me. “Are you scared of me?” I ask, and he doesn't hesitate to answer. “Every f*****g second. And I'm scared of what might happen to you when I'm not looking.” That is supposed to hurt. But it doesn't. I close the space between the both of us. I step between his knees, and he widens his legs, giving me more room. His fingers tighten against the wood, hard enough to break it. I lean down, placing a light kiss on his jaw. I feel his uneven breathing on my skin. My stomach tightens, and I can feel the pulsing at my center. Cassian immediately wraps his hands around my waist, pulling me into his lap. I straddle him, with my lips barely inches away from his. “Cassian,” I whisper, and I watch his pupils dilate in the little light provided by the moon. Cassian leans down, burying his face in my throat. I pull my hair to the side, giving him all the space he could need. He sucks down hard, and I rock my hips against his. His hands that are around my waist tighten hard, making me gasp. But f**k me if I don't like it. It feels almost violent emotionally. Cassian pulls away from my neck, looking up at me with heavy eyelids. He traces his thumb around my lips. I lean into his touch without thinking twice. “You're becoming something I might not survive, Nova,” he whispers. There is pain in his eyes. His birthday is so close. He is so close to losing his life. And here I am, being distracted with so many things. Things that I might not even survive if he isn't with me. “I love you,” I mutter under my breath, barely giving him the chance to reply before I cup his jaw, kissing him softly. Like he is going to disappear. I pull back for just a second. “I love you too, Nova,” he says. “So f*****g much.” He leans back in for the kiss, and it is needy. Almost frustrating. Our tongues practically fight against each other, and I am breathless, but I want to keep going. I keep rocking my hips against Cassian's groin, as I feel his bulge grow underneath me. I can feel the wetness spread, but I am no longer in the room. It feels like yet another vision. I can see the broker talking to someone. The person's back is turned to me, but as he turns back properly, he is putting on the motorcycle jacket from Cassian's pack. It even has his famous logo behind it. I feel my throat catch. Whoever is talking to the broker is someone from the pack. But who? I try to stay in the vision for as long as I can. The person is just about to turn around when I am suddenly pushed out of the vision. Cassian is no longer kissing me. He is looking at me in a weird manner, but he is still holding me close. “Are you okay?” He asks calmly, as I give him a small nod. “I just saw something. A vision.” Cassian immediately sits up, and he pulls me closer. Out of comfort and curiosity. “What did you see?” “The broker. He was talking to somebody. From the pack.” Cassian's eyes immediately narrow. “Who is it?” His voice is low, as I notice that when I bring my hands up, they are shaking. I shouldn't have closed my eyes again. “Who is it, Nova?” Cassian asks in a lower tone. A shiver runs through my spine immediately. He has stopped holding me at that point. His hands are around the arm rest of the chair, and I am sure that I hear it crack. “I didn't see a face,” I say, and Cassian looks like he is going to push it. Like he is going to scream at me to try and remember what I saw. But he doesn't do any of that. “Fine,” he says calmly, pulling me close again, and making me rest my head against his chest. “We'll figure it out.” I know that we will, but that doesn't change the fact that the enemy is within.
