CHAPTER 50
CASSIAN'S POV
The bombs keep coming, and it is harder to hold them down.
Guards surround me, fully armed. Someone throws a sword in my direction, and I catch it like it is nothing.
They all try to cover me, and I frown.
“I do not need you doing any of that!” I scream. “Cover the pack.”
They nod, and get to work immediately. As we stand there, we wait for them to come in. There is no way I am attacking first. Defence works better than anything in situations like this.
The moment the gate is broken, the intruders charge into the pack with force, and there is screaming everywhere.
My guards charge towards them as well with everything. Hammers, daggers, you name it.
Within seconds, the air smells of sweat, blood, and fur.
Some of them have even shifted into their werewolf forms, and I watch everything happen.
That is when I move, sword in hand, as I drift through the crowd, slashing and stabbing.
Screams come from all directions.
That is when I notice that the intruders are no longer attacking. They are herding.
Trying to move past us, to the center of the pack. I turn back to look at the center, where Nova is. I can still feel her moving, but I cannot tell exactly where she is. And she is not replying through the mate bond. But she has not blocked me out yet. I can still feel her.
That is all I need.
She is so f*****g calm, and I want to ask her how she does it.
I suddenly feel her again. She is on the move.
“Nova?” I ask through the mind link, as I slam my sword into an intruder's stomach.
My dark clothes are getting soaked with their blood, but that is what this war is about.
I draw the battle line, and they cross it like it is nothing. I look around, making sure my men are safe, and I can see that they are holding up so far.
Good.
That is when I notice the weapons the intruders are bringing out. Even more silver swords.
My eyes narrow immediately. They know Nova is not here.
I turn towards one of the guards, and he looks at me, waiting for an order.
“Go back to the main pack. Get Nova. Make sure she is safe,” I order, and he nods before moving.
I take a deep breath as I tighten my grip on the sword.

NOVA'S POV
The moment my feet touch the ground again, there is another type of energy that I feel. I feel my eyes shift, and I just know they are gold again.
I can hear Nate's voice in my head. He sounded nothing less than the scared child that wanted me to come and stay with him, after my aunt punished us the whole night. There was no way I was letting that child down. Not now, not ever.
That's the motivation I need to keep moving.
I take careful steps towards the gates, and that is when I notice men charging towards me. As soon as they see me, they slow down. It is almost like they are looking for different ways to attack me.
Like someone warned them about what I am. But here I am, more than willing to surprise them.
One of them suddenly screams, running towards me with his sword in hand. I can immediately smell the silver. I look over at him, and he freezes mid-air.
I take a step back, and the other men do the same.
I can freeze people in the air?
That explains the guard in front of Cassian's office. I look down at my hand, and I can barely hold back my smile.
The other men try to run away, and all I do is look at them, as they start to fall to the ground one after the other.
I walk over to where the men have collapsed, and I place a finger right over their pulses. They are very much alive.
I do not know how much more time I have. So I have to move fast.
Alarms start blaring immediately, and I notice that nobody in the pack is running outside like they are about to die.
They are all in their homes, and I can tell that Cassian is the one who asked them to stay in.
I have barely gotten to the gate, but I can feel the blood in the soil.
I can hear the clanging of metal, and the screaming of different men.
“Cassian?” I ask through the mind link, and I can hear his heavy breathing.
“I asked someone to come and pick you up. Please go with him.”
Maybe if things were not so tense, I would have rolled my eyes. But I cannot. Not at a time like this.
Even more men come, and this time, I raise my hands, as golden strips of energy lash out like whips, immediately wrapping themselves around their necks, until I watch their faces go cold.
Yet another explosive is thrown, and I flinch this time.
“I am not running from this,” I whisper to myself. I stand there in the dust and smoke, with my hands at my side. My eyes are still wide, and my vision is focused.
I stand there in place. For some reason, I cannot move. My body is sensing somebody, and my hands are balled into fists as I expect anyone to come out of the smoke.
That is when I realize that I am right in the middle of dust and smoke. If they want to attack me, this is the perfect time.
Cassian is never going to forgive me if anything happens to me. Neither is Nate. And I am more than willing to give my life up for those two. It is a shame that they do not share the same perspective as me.
“Who is there?” I ask, raising my voice. My feet are set in the perfect stance, and my nails are already digging too hard into my palm, even I am scared that it is going to draw blood.
No answer comes. It is just the distant sound from the gate.
But I can still feel it. Someone is definitely there.
“I guess it is just me and you now, princess,” the person says, and I squint my eyes, as the figure comes out of the smoke.
Killian's full form comes into sight, and there is a smirk on his lips.
