CHAPTER 36

CHAPTER 36 NOVA'S POV I can feel that I am not going to like him before I even come face to face with him. And the moment I do, I only verify my feelings. There is something about the compound that feels charged. But not in the right way. Like an unwanted person is there. But this man… Killian, just as I hear his name, is powerful. I can see it in the way other guards follow him around, but maybe he isn’t even powerful. Maybe he just has a way with words, making people follow him around. The other members of the pack are whispering around, and I don’t like it one bit. Even Cassian doesn’t like it. And for the first time, I can see Jason look genuinely pissed. There is something that has changed about him. He is glad to have Nate around. And there is a new kind of playfulness about him at the sight of me. But for now, they are all focused on Cassian's brother. And for some reason, so am I. “Killian,” I hear Jason say, but the rest of their conversation seems muffled in my head. I can feel his gaze on my skin, and I don’t like it one bit. Still, I don’t say a word. I know that the second I open my mouth, no one is going to like the words that are going to leave my mouth. I look over at him again, and it isn’t even like he is trying to figure out what I actually am. He is looking at me like he recognizes me from somewhere. But where? And how? I can feel it in my bones. There is this feeling that I get whenever Cassian looks at me. And now, I am getting it when I look at his brother. There is something about the both of them. But Killian’s gaze is different. Darker, but electric. I feel a shiver run through my spine. His smirk widens like he knows what he is doing. I look over at the woman that he brought with him. She is taller than me, and I can’t look past the way her trousers cling to her skin, or the way her boobs are almost directly underneath her chin. I can’t push away the thought that she does it purposely. She has to be Cassian’s ex. The one that the priestess talked about. A part of me is glad that I know their story. That I am not in the dark about the whole thing. Beatrice’s eyes rest on me, and I can feel the coolness coming from her. The disgust as she looks at me from head to toe. “Nova,” I hear Cassian call out. That manages to snap me out of whatever thoughts I am having. I turn to look at him, and he isn’t smiling anymore. He is slightly annoyed, and I know that I am not even the person behind that. Killian takes a step toward me, and his lips are spread in a small smile. He suddenly brings a hand to my cheek, and I can feel goosebumps on my skin. “Hmm,” he says, looking over at Cassian. “You brought trouble home. I can smell it all over her. I can't deny the fact that I like it.” Cassian takes a step toward him immediately, yanking his hand away from my face. “You don't get to touch her,” Cassian says, and even Beatrice c***s an eyebrow. He turns to look at Jason. “Take her inside.” I try to force my legs to move on their own. But it isn’t working out. Killian shoots Jason a look, and even Jason seems to stand there on the spot. “You don't just get to send her inside like some kind of domestic wife, before introducing her to me. Even domestic wives get introduced to their brother-in-law.” He cranes his neck, and his eyes fall on the mate mark. “Marked already. I see that you're not wasting any time.” Cassian’s hands are balled into fists again. “Jason,” he says louder, making me flinch. “Take her inside.” Killian looks at Jason one more time, and he pauses again. “Just introduce us,” I say calmly. “And then I'll go inside.” That is the only thing that manages to win Cassian over. And he takes a deep breath, taking a step back. “Nova, this is Killian. My older brother. And Killian, this is Nova. My mate.” “Fully mated?” Killian asks, looking at me like he is waiting for me to give him an answer. “No,” Cassian says anyway, and I don’t miss the smile that escapes his lips. Killian turns to look at him. “You know, she's being talked about across packs. That was the reason why I had to leave everything and come to see you,” he says, and Beatrice finally steps forward. I can’t help but notice that the both of them have barely looked at each other like mates. They are interested in other people. Beatrice is specifically interested in Cassian, and she isn’t even making an attempt at hiding it. “And it's a shame that you even chose someone like her,” she says, and Cassian turns to look at her, with an eyebrow c****d. “Is there a problem with it?” He asks, and if his fists were to explode, then it would have happened then and there. He is going to lose his mind, and I can tell. Even Jason looks like he is bracing himself for whatever is about to come. Cassian c***s his head to the side, before looking at Killian again. “Well then, brother,” he says in the softest voice I have heard him use since Killian stepped into the pack. “The maids are going to lead you to your room. You may go there with your mate. And please. Stay out of trouble.” Killian gives him a look, and the maids immediately come from the palace, carrying the bags inside. Killian follows the maids, wrapping his arm around Beatrice’s waist. But as he walks toward the palace, his eyes are still on me. I don’t like the fact that they are here. But Cassian has already allowed them to stay. I don’t have much of a say in it. “Are you okay?” Cassian asks, as he looks at me. I press my lips into a thin line, nodding my head. I have to be fine with the whole thing. As I turn to look upstairs, I notice that Nate is standing by the window, watching everything. As his eyes land on me, he shakes his head. He doesn’t like this. Neither do I.
