CHAPTER 53
NOVA'S POV
The silence that follows is more than unnerving. Cassian doesn't say a word, and I am breathing hard, while Killian still has the smirk on his face. For the first time, I want to slap that smile off his face.
I am the first one to turn away. None of the brothers stop me and for some reason, that only seems to anger me further.
I make my way past all the bodies that are deposited on the floor. None of them belong to the guards of the pack, and that brings some kind of peace. But that is all there is to it.
My stomach turns at the smell of the blood. Because it feels like I can pick each and every part of it. I quickly find my way to the house, walking into the room, and slamming the door shut.
The last thing I need, is for any of them to barge in. The memory of me destroying my room only makes things worse.
Fuck, I am awful.
“Why?” I whisper to myself, as the tears prick the back of my eyes. I bury my face in my hands, and my shoulders shake.
I am angry, and sad at the same time. Angry at Cassian, because he is trying to act like my curiosity is nothing to be worried about.
Hell, I am hungry for answers. I want to know what I am. What I am capable of. I want to be trained. To be made the most powerful anyone can ever make me. To be pushed to my limits.
I can't deny the fact that I am already considering Killian's offer for just a second. He offers all the things that I feel like I need.
Cassian is trying to control me. But I am not going to let him.
At the thought of him, I can feel him try to reach me emotionally. He is trying to make sure that I am okay through the mate bond. I don't even hesitate to block him out.
At least I know that I am capable of doing that.
I force my feet to work, as I head to the room that I destroyed. It isn't going to take Cassian anything to come and find me.
By the time I push the door open, I notice that they are already working on it. Just as Cassian said they would. But then, there is someone sitting on the bed.
She turns to look at me with a smirk similar to the one on her mate's lips.
Beatrice.
Only the heavens know how they are even mated to each other. They are better off alone.
“What do you want?” I ask, shutting the door behind me for some reason.
She crosses her legs in front of the other. There is this elegant vibe about her. Like she owns the room. I can't even blame her.
“You don't seem too happy to see me here.”
“I came here for isolation. Not to entertain visitors.”
She feigns hurt. “Ouch.” Then she looks at me from head to toe, like she is studying me. “You know, you're making the same mistake he made.”
I frown. “What do you mean?”
“Cassian tends to suffocate the things he's scared of losing.”
I feel myself swallow hard. Cassian is scared of losing me. That is a first. Am I about to take it for granted?
That is when it suddenly hits me. Beatrice understands Cassian in ways that I might never. But still, she seems a little too calm about the whole thing. None of it is natural. She isn't bothered by the failed bond. And that only makes her harder to read.
Is she even normal?
She sighs, as she turns to face me fully. “You might think that Killian is dangerous because he watches you.”
I almost scoff. “Isn't he?” I am so close to telling her that her dearest mate wants me to come back with him to their pack. In my head, I am already imagining her reaction. What if she doesn't even care? What if she already knows?
“Not as much as Cassian,” she says in a low voice that makes a shiver run through my spine. “Cassian is more than capable of ruining you. And if you let him, he won't hesitate.”
“Cassian wouldn't do that,” I say, and Beatrice rolls her eyes.
“Killian didn't come here because of the wars. He's only here because of you. And he knew about you before he even got to this stupid pack.”
My knees buckle. “How?”
She shakes her head, and I know that she knows more than she is letting on.
She is just trying to distract me. She suddenly stands up, rubbing her hands against her skirt. She gently pushes past me, as she makes her way to the door.
She is just about to head out, when she turns back, looking at me one more time with something like pity written all over her.
“Just know that if you go with Killian, you're not returning the same way.”
That manages to suck all the air out of me. I want to f*****g sit her down and ask her to tell me everything she knows about this. But I can't bring myself to do it.
Not when my feet refuse to work.
She shuts the door slowly, like she actually wants to give me that isolation that I wanted. I feel myself collapse slowly on the bed, as my brain works overtime, trying to figure out what I actually want.
I am stuck between choosing to stay with Cassian, and possibly being suffocated with lack of freedom, or go with Killian and get all the change, and possibly all the answers that I've needed all this time.
My head is already hurting from the thought of it.
And it doesn't matter the decision I am going to take, it is dangerous either way. The two brothers are dangerous. I just have to choose the type of danger I am going for.
