CHAPTER 13
NOVA'S POV
All I can remember is that I am in my room when it all happens. All I feel are hands against my mouth and before I can even scream or try to figure out what is happening, my mouth is being covered, and my hands are being bound in front of me.
I can't push away the thought that the person who comes to pick me, is someone who knows exactly where I'd be.
By the time I open my eyes again, I am being dragged further into the desert. One of the places that I can't even explain.
A part of me curses myself for not asking Cassian where my car is.
“Quiet, little girl. Are you waiting for your little Alpha to come and take you home?” The voice asks, and I look up, with panic flooding through my veins as I try to see who it is.
The faces are covered with motorcycle helmets. I want to believe that whoever is behind this, is someone that has some kind of rivalry with Cassian. It can't be someone in the pack.
“Please,” I beg. “Let me go.”
“Why don't you try to free yourself?” He asks, and I look down at my hands. They are being tied in silver.
Werewolves have a weakness of silver. Every single person knows that. Whether it is a fantasy or not.
I close my eyes, trying to focus even as I am being pulled along.
Nothing is working, and I can barely understand what is even going on. My head is fuzzy. I am supposed to be resting.
I try looking down at my feet through the huddle, and I notice that the sole of my feet are fully healed.
The priestess' drug is at work.
I try connecting with the power in any way. That hum that I usually feel isn't there.
“Anything, please,” I beg in a whisper.
Strong arms are holding mine, still pulling me along and it is hard for me not to sneeze.
Cassian.
He is going to find me. But what if he doesn't find me early enough?
Tears are already pricking the back of my eyes.
And I suddenly feel a little bit of a hum under my skin. I quickly turn to face them again, and the golden strips of energy hit one of them. The smile on my face is priceless as he cries out.
The energy is weak. It isn't like the last time when I did enough to destroy them.
I groan, trying to project more energy, but it only flickers.
One of them clicks his tongue, and he walks over, slapping me hard across the face.
I can feel the metallic taste of blood on my tongue as my cheeks burn.
The man that slaps me, quickly takes his helmet off.
I narrow my eyes at him immediately. Something tells me that I recognize him, but I don't know from where.
“You're worth more alive,” he says. “If not, I would have had the joy of killing you myself.”
With that, they cover my eyes, and I feel something hit my head. My head slowly tilts to the side, and my world goes silent.
---
By the time I wake up again, my head is hurting.
I try moving, and my hands are still bound with silver ropes. This time, my eyes and mouth are open, but there are gloves on my hands as well. I am bound to a chair, and my legs are also tied.
The man that slaps me is still standing in front of me. It is almost like he sees no reason to even hide his face anymore.
“You're awake?” He asks, and I narrow my eyes at him.
“Why haven't you killed me yet? Isn't that what you want to do?”
He smiles. The smile that he gives is so dark that a shiver runs through my spine.
“Come on, Nova,” he says with a smile. “With the price that you're being bought at? I would rather do something else.”
“Who's buying me?” I demand, raising my tone slightly.
“The cartel is paying.”
I am already racking my brain, trying to think about who the cartel is. Nothing comes to mind.
“Why do they want me?” I ask, and he shrugs.
He is just carrying orders.
The truth hits harder than it is supposed to.
I am nothing less than a currency in this man's eyes.
I can suddenly feel something in my head. A voice. I try to silence every other thing, focusing on that voice.
It is Cassian. I can feel him through the bond. I can feel his rage. Pure Alpha rage.
“Nova,” I hear him call out, and I quickly send back a reply.
“I'm here, Cassian,” I say in my head, and then there is silence.
“Cassian?” I call out again. There is still no response.
Adrenaline is flooding through my veins, and it is getting harder to breathe by the second. My heart is beating so hard in my chest.
“Nova,” I feel him call out again, and a part of me relaxes.
I am done talking. I don't care if he can hear me or not.
“Come find me,” I whisper, and I can't push away the thought that he hears me.
I find myself leaning back in my chair. The man in the mask doesn't notice anything, and I can't help but smile even more.
“Are you hungry?” He asks, and I shake my head.
I am not shocked that he is offering me food.
After all, the cartel is paying.
But who is the cartel? And why do they want me?
They specifically want me alive too. That is another thing that I can't ignore.
I try pulling against the ropes one more time, and it is slowly eating into my skin. I can't help but cry out in pain.
The man smirks, walking over to me. He leans down to my level with his smirk widening.
“You should have known that you won't be able to find your way out of this, Nova. I thought you were at least that smart.”
It takes a lot for me not to spit in his eyes.
I smile at him instead.
“Watch me.”
